I think it was the Pat McAfee interview posted in the Bwags thread the graphic was shown that the Seahawks were 25-12-1 against the Cards and 9’ers with Wagner on the team.

This Ram's safety hit shown above has been MIA with the Jordan Fuller & Taylor Rapp 2020/2021 starting tandem. My big hope is we do NOT see Rapp starting @ SS & Jordan starting deep in the 2022 season.
I see it as a ''Paradigm Shift'' with the Rams secondary on how to take on the 9ers from that point forward.
The secondary morphed into something completely different with Nick Scott & Eric Weddle(retired). Don't forget that (former college safety) ILB'er Travin Howard was also playing many snaps in the safety role in that 9ers game.
I would expect that the new reconstructed trio of DB coaches of Jonathan Cooley who was an assistant DB coach in 2021, newly hired assistant DB coach Lance Schulters ( Former NFL pro bowl free safety/ College/NFL Defensive Backs coach) {Schulters has a history with DC Morris in Atlanta}) and long-time McVay Defensive coach Chris Shula who has been promoted to "Defensive Passing Game Coordinator" will reach a much more successful starting combo of safeties.

Shula in the pass game coordinator role now is a big deal. Him learning the back end looks very much to me like he's being primed to replace Raheem when he gets that HC job.

Gotta say the more I see of Wagner the more I like him. He's a real pro and extremely level-headed which I look forward to seeing being added to our defense. Seattle changing their fronts is interesting too, that's not something people considered irt his production. The guy is definitely not what he used to be in quickness but he has experience and maybe some of those other factors allowed for him to be available when he's got more to him than people expect.
I would think if we measure him in terms of what he upgrades these are the areas where he makes us better:
1. Leadership. Can't put a price tag on that. Caveat is that at the NFL level you have to play at a certain level to be a leader. Ain't nobody gonna care what you think or say when your teammates see you blowing assignments on film review.
2. Run fits. Like he mentioned himself he's a downhill run stuffer. And at this level that's not an easy thing to find tbh, you can go get guys who are two-down types but many of them have limited range and as they get into space i.e. screens and short passing their play suffers. Not sure to what extent he can remain on the field on third down, in fact that's going to be the primary determiner of whether he's worth this signing, but if he does then they have themselves a bargain.
3. Toughness. This is a real factor for a defense. Rams iirc were like 5th in most missed/blown tackles in the league and looked sort of weak in the toughness department in that midseason struggle period. You can't have enough tough guys on a unit IMO. And I'm not talking just physical toughness but also the mental side. Wagner is an upgrade on both accounts I'd think.
Worst case scenario he'll settle in as a two down thumper to help us vs early down run teams like SF and Seattle. Which is valuable for sure, but of course if that is how things go then he won't be in horns for long.
Best case scenario he'll look a few years younger in this scheme and wear the dot and run this defense all three downs. If that happens the Rams hit a home run on the signing at the price they paid.
Last but not least the competition is going to help our defense too. Roster competition is enormous IMO. Jones is going to have a lot to say about who wears that green dot, so personally I am expecting a real battle in camp.

Oh and btw one other element Wagner brings is durability. I mean Jones looked great as a rook for us as he came on but he got hurt pretty quickly and missed time even in that small window. Durability is a big deal too for an ILB who makes their money in all that traffic with the bigs flying around.
