Morris learned under Dungy and Staley under Fangio. Morris was a head coach previously. He’s been around a long time. McVay hired Staley specifically to learn the Fangio defense and use it on the Rams. Staley taught it to McVay.Mcdaniels, OBrien, Weis were all offense guys, Patricia, Brian Flores defense guys, Joe Judge ST guy. All on the Belechik tree.
Likewise Staley and Morris on the McVay tree because they worked under him.
Don’t know why it has to be more complicated than that.

And Morris and Staley were DC under McVay and became HC which make them branches on the McVay treeMorris learned under Dungy and Staley under Fangio. Morris was a head coach previously. No. You can’t be a head coach and learn from another head coach, then coach one year under another coach and that coach gets the credit. And Morris and Staley were DC under McVay and became HC which make them branches on the McVay tree
Marcus Mariota is a FA, wonder if he ends up back in Black an SilverI'd love to be a fly on the wall when they discuss the former OSU quarterback.
Of course you can, thats why Morris is considered under McVay's coaching tree. What he learned from being on McVay's staff propelled him to his current HC promotion.No. You can’t be a head coach and learn from another head coach, then coach one year under another coach and that coach gets the credit.
Spagnoulo has been with Reid a very long time. Not a two yearsOf course you can, thats why Morris is considered under McVay's coaching tree. What he learned from being on McVay's staff propelled him to his current HC promotion.
If Spagnolo was ever to get an HC gig, he'd be considered on the Andy Reid tree.
It's not that complicated
So now there is a time requirement? Morris was with McVay for 3 years, not 2 btw.Spagnoulo has been with Reid a very long time. Not a two years
???I'd love to be a fly on the wall when they discuss the former OSU quarterback.
That would be UofO. But I don't expect some Domer to know that.Marcus Mariota is a FA, wonder if he ends up back in Black an Silver
LaFleur learned and runs McVays version of the Shanahan offense from McVaySo now there is a time requirement? Morris was with McVay for 3 years, not 2 btw.
By this logic, then why does LaFleur count? He was only with McVay for 1 year, was OC under Vrabel when he got his gig.
It's simple, not complicated. You may not agree with it, but it is what it is.
When a coach works under another coach, he is considered on his "Tree"
Therefore, Morris is considered on McVay's
Just google "Sean McVay's coaching tree" and you'll see Morris listed every time
And does it really matter?LaFleur learned and runs McVays version of the Shanahan offense from McVay
Same with Taylor, Coen and OConnel.
They are all part of the Shanahan tree as well as McVay’s.
Morris didn’t learn his defense under McVay and was a head coach before McVay. He learned from Dungy.
By your estimation Coen is from the Todd Bowles coaching tree.
Either way, we obviously won’t ever agree on this topic.
So the three top football people report separately to the owner? Yeah, that usually works.
Yes. Even one year under a coach is a significant window of development for someone who is gifted and works hard to take full advantage. McVay was on record early on about what working for Ratboy, who was the OC at Washington when he was the TE coach, taught him. That was a two year window where even as just a position coach he was exposed to the high quality expectations, where submitting an idea by itself was not enough, because Ratboy would ask what if this and what if that and go deep into it. So the requirement of preparation, the way Ratboy ran the offense as the coordinator behind the scenes, was a crucial skill.Of course you can, thats why Morris is considered under McVay's coaching tree. What he learned from being on McVay's staff propelled him to his current HC promotion.
