That’s fine with me, as far as signing a FA vet QB. Drafting a second round QB with the intent being of developing a guy over the next couple of years, is wasting our window AD and others. We have greater needs the next two years, imo.
Absolutely a vet. If they also feel inclined to draft a developmental QB later in the draft who will survive on the practice squad and get rid of Wolford, all the better. This fan is tired of wasting that roster spot. But I don't think McVay gets rid of his mini-me.

So rare.
I’d be happy with competent.

Not rare at ALL! You just need draft picks.

For Sean Mcvay tenure it is impossible. I mean the trade up the NINER’s made was DUMB!!
They have been so lucky that no team went after Jimmy G.
An example would have been Mills as a backup.
The Rams could have had Jalen Hurt & AJ Dillion instead of Cam Akers & Van Jefferson.

I don't think any of us were ever confident in the two we have. The question though is why was McVay? To hear yesterday how hard he pushed for McCoy to go to Arizona made me sick. He is clearly better than both of our backups and with him at least maybe we had a shot yesterday. SMH.
Cost plain and simple.
Colt McCoy is making between $2 and $3 million a year.
The Rams are getting by on the cheap at several position in terms of depth.....QB being one of the spots.

There is a freshman at New Mexico St I like a lot....
Freshman & New Mexico State concern me, Freshman because of time and it always seems that New Mexico & New Mexico State seem to always be losing. If the kid is good, maybe he hits the transfer portal and ends up at TCU or Texas A&M and then you will have my attention.

I saw him play once and he sort of popped for me.
Decent size, good arm, good technique etc.
I was joking a bit but he is a guy I will keep an eye on. Odds are, nothing happens with him, but, thats how it goes.
I don't care so much about big school vs small school. There certainly is some value in level of competition but winning and losing in a team sport.....ehh.
Its why so many big time college coaches fail in the NFL. They aren't great coaches or football minds. They are great recruiters. They are clowns and used car salesman who make huge salaries for lying to 18 year recruits.
If I were advising kids (and I have, in a different sport)....if a kid is being recruited, realistically, to be the 5th depth guy at their roster spot at a major college or be a starter or compete for a starting spot at a small school.....well, thats an easy choice for me. Unless there is a specific reason to override that, go where you can play.
Scoring depth charts was sort of my bigger point.....to try and find a long term replacement without investing a high pick or tons of $$$$.

I think it depends on how you feel about your ability and opportunity. IMO, if I thought I could battle my way up a depth chart and I always wanted to attend Notre Dame (using that as an example) then Notre Dame it should be and not maybe Toledo or Akron for example.

But again, if I felt good about Akron and liked the Coach and was promised major playing that would factor in, however, when you're younger you have a different vision of yourself although I do think the youth of today get better advise then we did years ago.

You have to wonder if Sean is contemplating shutting down Stafford for the rest of the year. Kupp is gone basically for the rest of the year and the OL is in shambles. I think losing both Brewer and Jackson could be the last straw for this offense. With Morris at DC the defense ain't gonna win any games.

Time to roll out Perkins and let him playout the rest of the season? There is no question with the OL in shambles they need mobility at QB. Wolford has proved he's a JAG. Do they risk their franchise QB this way? Regardless, could force Snead's hand in the next draft. IMO they are one more concussion away from losing Stafford not only for the season but perhaps permanently. Does McVay expose him in that way? The Rams have already seen what bringing back a player a bit early from concussion protocol did with David Edwards.

It's clear Stafford isn't ready to play next week. It's going to take 2 weeks for the OL to sort themselves out if they can. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rams IR Stafford ending his season. It would clear the way for Snead to find a replacement for Wolford. Just roll with Perkins the rest of the way.

I dont think McVay has any interest in developing a young QB, and if he needs a permanent/semi permanent replacement for Stafford, he will get one.

Wolford isn't good but was made to look much, MUCH worse by the overall situation.
I wouldn't expect too much of a swing for improvement in this area.. maybe a 6th rounder.
This team will be gearing up to make things right next year.. because that may be it for the window.

The examples I have are baseball players.
One kid was an outfielder. Made the All-State team. Hits well, runs well. He was 5' 8". He always wanted to go to LSU to play baseball.
After a training session we looked up their roster.
OF....6' 2", 6' 4", 6' 4", 6' 3"......so, you are going to be physically mismatched. You run well but those guys also run well and cover more ground. You hit well, but, those guys also hit well and have more power.
Do you want to play?
Do you have a specific educational reason to go to said school?
If you want to play find a good match academically and go someplace you have a realistic chance of playing.
LSU extended him an invite because, they are just recruiting.
He made the right choice and went where he could play.

Biggest issue is not this year or last year, but Wolford has been the backup for 4 years. He's really not very good at all.
The NFL is tough business. Do with that said snd no disrespect intended - does anyone watching Wolford play see an NFL -caliber QB? I don’t see Wolford going toe to toe with any backup QB much less a starter. With Staffords age the Rams need an NFL-caliber backup QB - otherwise season is over once Stafford becomes unavailable.

I agree - I saw enough of the preseason to know Wolford just didn't have it to be the back-up QB and knew if Stafford went down - we were done for

Perkins is only good for a play or two during a game

McVay clearly disagrees about Wolford.
36 pass attempts vs the Cardinals.

There is a possibility that the OL has 4 of the original 5 starters playing this week. And, Stafford was a full go today.

Actually Wolford looked fine. The problem is our 6 footer WRs are just too short. If we could find some 7 footers I think you could expect success.

Is Edwards coming back this weekend?
He was terrible earlier this year, but, obviously would like to have him back.
