It's not an unreasonable fear to have right now. We know that Todd has been on a touch count. We know he dealt with a pain issue that reoccurs in the playoffs. We even heard him say he was about to give the Rams some money back when it started, something along those lines.

I think he's going to stay on a touch count through the regular season, and that this is who he is now. Whether he gets bigger snaps in the playoffs is not certain. If it's a deal like Thurman Thomas had, his is probably a worse condition that has to be watched more carefully. I also think Todd is tired of it, of not being himself, and it shows in the interviews.

And the Rams have been looking for an answer offensively to establish who they are all season thus far. At some point before his contract runs its course it's not crazy to think the Rams will find another back who can be the bell cow. Been saying they need that for some time now in fact. I love TG, but this is a tough business it's a damn bummer.

So for myself right now I'm just going to enjoy watching him play when he's in there.

Worried about Goff, is Todd Gurley done; what is wrong with this forum lately? 5 games in and the panic button is being smashed on like we're playing family feud. Ezekiel Elliot is off to the slowest start of his career. Carson Wentz is struggling to complete 60% of his passes the last four games. I wonder if the Cowboys and Eagles are thinking about cutting bait with them?

Look, it's a long season. I know everyone wants us to look like a well oiled machine but that's not happening. This is football, not basketball. It's a team game, and right now the O-Line isn't doing Goff or Gurley any favors. As they continue to gel, so will everything else. Gurley is fine.

I’m interested in an honest discussion on what we think is going on with Gurley.

Snide remarks don’t add anything.

If you think he’s the same guy, just say why. I welcome hearing that.

Here’s my take, fwiw.

1. Gurley isn’t 100%. Period. Where have those ankle breaking cuts gone?

2. Our OL hasn’t yet gelled and those holes of yesteryear just aren’t there, anymore. At least not yet.

3. Opposing D’s have taken away Gurley’s bread and butter outside zone running plays via scheming.

4. Rams futility in scoring early forces more catch-up pass attempts which limit Gurley’s run opportunities.

Add all that up and it ain’t pretty, is it?

Well I hope they learn soon because they have yet to get much out of either one of them. They are only performing as average NFL players at their positions, which we are not use to seeing.
Dude. You must looking at the newspaper for boiled down stats and not watching the games if you think Donald has not been disruptive despite having more attention from opponents OL than ever. You need to look at the other DL to step up while Donald continues to do his thing.

That's fair. It's definitely more than just one thing that prevents Gurley from being the MVP guy that we had.

He's simply not getting enough touches to be the same guy he was last two seasons. At least right now.

He's had enough runs where you see the speed and the cuts and even the power to make me believe physically he is not struggling the way people are claiming he is. There just haven't been enough of those yet.

I think its a combination of things that are making things difficult. Teams are using 6 man fronts designed to take away to runs Gurley thrives on. Run outside and cut back into the running lane. Not many lanes to run through. It sure seems like when they try to run wide there's always one or two defenders getting in the backfield and disrupting the play. Then, like with Donald, teams are game planning to prevent him from making those big plays.

Then you have a line that is clearly not as good as the last couple years. They're not run blocking as well. Teams are trying to get more pressure on Goff. They'll keep doing it until McVay figures out how to beat it.

Speaking of Goff, it sure seems like his releases are slower lately. He seems like he's winding up his throw the way a shortstop would crank it up to make a strong throw to first. It works for the shortstop because he doesn't have people trying to knock the ball loose.

I think he'll retire after this season. That's not me being negative, it's just a gut thing. I hope I'm wrong, as Gurley is one of my all-time favorite Rams... but what other 25 year old RB is on a pitch count like he's a 38 year old LT?

Agreed on having him in the backfield so much. It's why teams know the pass is coming more often than not as well. The balance with him back there is skewed.

Rams need another back to emerge. If they can't then the Rams need to look at other options.

Also, I don't think he's going to ever get better. That type of thing tends to degrade if anything. So I hope we find a way to keep him through his contract (or most of it at least) as a 15 touch per game RB because I'm a big fan of his and enjoy watching him be a part of this team.

Colin Cowherd asked if anyone gets the sense that there is tension in the Rams locker room. He said the Rams drafted a very good runningback in the third round but haven’t played him. Maybe McVay isn’t playing him because it will cause more tension with Gurley.

Then he said, or maybe Henderson isn’t picking things up as quickly. The scheme is complex for a RB. Etc,..

My interpretation: So maybe Gurley took offense to the Rams drafting Henderson and felt it was disrespecting him as if he is no longer able to do what he did the last two years.

Or maybe none of it holds water. But Todd has seemed a bit more Surly this season and we haven’t seen the rookie back play.
