Anybody wanna kick around some thoughts for next offseason moves?

Personally I think the Rams should stay in Los Angles at least until the stadium is built before they move again.

Well, it sure beats the hell out of living in Minnesota because God doesn't make little green apples and it doesn't snow in Minneapolis in the winter time!

Watkins and Sullivan are starters that will be free agents after the season on O. Would want to resign Watkins, the limit would be the new contract for Jeffery. Would rather see the rams look at a long term C to replace Sullivan. Seems with the cap space the rams have open, using some of those funds for a young C would be a wise investment. Sully has done a nice job, just looking for a younger, long-term solution at C.

Tru, Joyner, Barwin, NBC, are the starters up for free agency on D. Joyner and RBC would be my top 2 to resign. Joyner will be in demand and expensive, NBC has fit well, think he can come back for a reasonable price. Tru has been franchised for 2 years now, think he and the rams will part ways. Barwin was a nice one year pickup, rams have a few young OLB that need to to have some playing time available.

As for the draft, hard to dispute what others have posted to be areas the rams will look to add talent. Perhaps a trade down from the lower 1st round area the rams are looking to be drafting in for the first time in a while. Ogletree slipped to them in 2013 at pick 30, after trading down from 22. Adding another 3rd rounder this upcoming draft would be a move the rams would like to make, as they are without a 2nd rounder. 2 CB's LG LT NT pass rusher, FS would be a guess on areas the rams would like to add talent. Finding backups/potential starters for Withworth, Saffold would make sense. Another rotation player for NT another pass rusher, along with a FS. Almost surely the rams will be drafting a CB, and one early as that is such a difficult position to keep players on the field it seems.

Rams did invest/draft in 2 edge rusher/OSLB'ers in 2017. Samson Ebukam & Ejuan Price. Its also a done deal that Restricted free agent ER/OLB'er Matt Longacre will sign the standard two year, $3 million contract too. So that 3 ER's there. Longacre will be in his 4th season so he is well seasoned to take a early starting position if needed. His salary cap is very friendly. Rams badly need econo priced players like Longacre involved here.

I am of the belief that Wade has a good rising future starter already here in the name of Samson Ebukam. This early 3rd day draft selection missed most of the TC & 3 of the 4 pre season games due to a hamstring injury. Ebukam was way behind when the season began. Now into wk #12 he may get the start in place of the injured Barwin. Ebukam's on field performance is coming on here as of late. Just look @ Ebukam vs Quinn comparisons ....Quinn in the last 4 gms has 11 tackles 1 sack & 1 FF whereas Eubkam in a reserve non starting role has 8 tackles 2 sacks & a forced fumble. Quinn's salary cap hit is $12.4 mil & Ebukam's will be $700K:whistle:.

More on our signed ER/OSLB'ers...Cory Littleton who is currently ILB Barron back up, played both OLB'er posts & won the Rams top rookie award last season, Cory has started 2 gms thus far....In college Cory logged most of his time as a stand up edge rusher & his Sr. season started @ OLB'er. Cory a ST standout will be under contract in 2018 for a cap friendly 600K. Cory will be in his 3rd NFL season. If it was needed Cory is an easy addition to be in contention @ OSLB with Longacre, Ebukam & Price if needed.
Great work....a lot....

I wanted to reply to this....people keep saying we need edge rushers.....OLB's.....cutting Quinn....We have a bunch of OLB's....whatever happened to Carlos Thompson....Cassanova McKinzy.....and Price (who looks overmatched to me)....we have a boat load of edge defenders....and I like Samson and Longacre....Quinn hasn't looked bad either....
Lamar Jackson (Louisville)
Don't see him as a first round pick....talented...and I'd take him...but don't think his frame & game translate to the NFL first round....esp not top 10.
Josh Allen has been playing like ass for someone who's supposed to be in the 1st round. I don't get the Baker Mayfield stuff...at all.
Watched a lil of 2 games....Guy has a cannon...and has teammates that are constantly dropping the ball. That's Alllen....I think he has the best arm out there....

You haven't seen Baker Mayfield work his magic? Please watch the playoffs in a few weeks...guy looks like Doug Flutie the way he makes shit happen....

I'd like to bring Sullivan back. Watkins would be nice but he might be too expensive. Might have to look at less costly alternatives. Donald needs a new deal. Sometimes there just isn't enough money to go around for all the pieces to the puzzle. Sammy might be the odd man out unless the numbers this season drops his value.

Yeah, we’ve got a lot of guys that are gonna be up for FA after this season.

But I’ll say this.

I now have every confidence that S&M will figure things out and make best possible decisions in each case.

I intend to follow the process unfold, of course.

But, honestly, I can’t remember when I’ve felt such certainty that our Rams are gonna make the “right” moves. What a wonderful feeling it is.

One big difference I see without Fisher calling the shots, Snead likes playmakers. I believe Fisher did not value playmakers at receiver like he valued the RB and defense. I still remember that piece with him and McVay in the draft war room and what he told McVay. "Its so nice to be able to finally get playmakers". McVay agreed. I think he couldn't draft those guys with Fisher calling the shots.

Sign AD and joyner to a new deal

Sign Watkins for 2-4 years

I would like to keep TRU but we would need a home town discount .

Resign NRC.

Sadly have to get rid of Quinn and tavon for cap space.

Draft CB, OLB, LT

The priority has to be..

Watkins has to sign reasonable to stay. I would be fine rolling with Woods, Kupp, and the lowest taker out of Watkins, Terrelle Pryor, Alshon Jeffrey, Jarvis Landry, Allen Robinson, and maybe even Davante Adams.

Priority imo should be LBer, LBer. We suck so bad at LBer that I wouldn't complain if we got a couple.

As for your WR list....I watched Terrell Pryor closely and imo he can stay in Washington. Dude has no idea how to run a rout and though long legged and fast, plays pretty stiff. But Allen Robinson could be a nice addition as a decent route runner and he would compliment Woods nicely.

If there was any way he fell to us I would take Roquan Smith from Georgia. I know I am naturally a Georgia homer but the dude is the truth. I watched Ogletree and Roquan play MLB all through college and Roquan is significantly better. He is 1 of 5 finalists for the Butkus award, 1 of 5 finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and 1 of 3 finalists for the Bednarik Award. I'd argue he is the best linebacker in CFB.

Smith looks like he is faster than Tree and has significantly more strength and block-shedding power. The guy is as clutch as it comes when tackling people. He has missed ONE tackle all year and that came against a passing play against Auburn. He plays in a 3-4 as well. If the Rams somehow got him he is an immediate starter at MLB and could move Ogletree or Barron to OLB. Wade seems to like sending Tree on blitzes so maybe OLB is a better fit.

For those of you who watched the SEC championship game, Roquan Smith just won MVP with a monster performance. I swear he's like a faster Bobby Wagner. I think he'd really make this defense elite.

The Rams don’t have a Second round pick. This will make it tough to fill major needs, like corner and OLB, both.

This is why I think they try to keep Tru and NR-C around.

Snead got some major free agent signings so I am guessing they won’t have any comp picks for lost free agents. Am I right?

And does anyone remember if they have picks coming from past trades?

If he is on the board when the Rams pick I don't think they can pass him up, BPA.

The Rams secondary will take a direct hit form the Mother of all Bombs called Free Agency. LJ ,Cody Davis or NRC are possible saving targets & in our buying range wheel house....if we can sign 2 of these we would be lucky.

Hard to tell this early but it would appear that Snead will have most all our own draft selections with the exceptions of our 2nd & 7th rounder picks. Best as I can make out is we do have 2 additional 6th rd picks with the possibility of a 7th r'er from somewhere not sure. Appears like Rams have 1 pick on the first day of the draft, 1 pick on day two & 6 picks on the 3rd day. One would suspect those extra late picks can be fodder to trade up spots to enable us to get a few prospects of choice/need.

Loss of the 2nd won't hurt us. We have 3 6th round picks so we have 8 picks in 7 rounds.

Really hard to say what they will do until we find out who we retain, who we sign in free agency, etc. before we can figure out who we draft.
koo
That is why the process is laid out in the order that it is.
First, on January 2nd, they allow you to sign your own free agents and 5th year option, or franchise a player, excetera.

It's hard for me to guess where we're going until they do those three things.

Sucks were not going to get a pick until #32 next year!!!

How do you figure that 3 6th round picks make up for no 2nd round pick? 6th round picks don't usually become starters. The percentages o f that happening is low. On the other hand 2nd rounders often become valued starters.

Not having a second round pick will make it tough to fill two top needs, especially since the third will also be a late pick.

I can't even think specifics yet, but from our current roster, I hope we'll be able to add to our linebacking corps. Adding a serious pass-rushing threat at OLB could really benefit Wade's D.

On other thing: please don't entertain any thoughts of moving on from Saffold. OL is absolutely integral to the success of this O, and Saffold is playing at an elite level. Once you have that, you need to hang on to it!
