This golf game can be crazy and frustrating, yet enjoyable. A couple months I started developing a bad swing, cutting across the ball on the driver or fairway woods and causing it to slice and lose a lot of distance. At the same time my irons were hitting too fat. I figured there had to be a correlation there.
Needless to say my scores started creeping back up to the high 90's. The only thing that saved me from going over 100 was my chipping and putting which I spent a lot of time with lately. I tried and tried to stop cutting across the ball to no avail.
I watch videos on it and nothing seems to sink in. Until one guy said one thing. He said try holding your upper body back on the downswing which will make the club move ahead of the body. You can't really swing without turning your body back, but when you try to hold it during the downswing it changed everything for me. All of sudden I'm not cutting across the ball. I did push a few right, but it wasn't cutting across which meant distance was coming back. And the irons were no longer hitting fat.
I went out yesterday and shot a 91. Best score in a long time. Three putts kept me from breaking 90. So now I'm encouraged again and I want to go back out there. For a while I didn't even want to go with my friends, but they kept bugging me to go.

Was on a family vacation this past week in Aruba and my nephew convinced me to play a round with him. Its been at least 10 years since I've played. At least 10 years...
Used a rental set of clubs, Nike irons and Driver. The head of the driver looked HUGE, last I played I used an original Big Bertha and the head was smaller than the 5 wood in the bag...
All in all it was a really fun time.
And I did learn how over rated golf shoes are. Wore a pair of running shoes and didnt feel a difference

I go on walks along manicured lawns with 9 textured trowels on the end of sticks. I dig little holes in the grass every so often. I've got three longer sticks that I use occasionally to wrench my back muscles, because what walk wouldn't be complete without wrenched back muscles?
On the really manicured parts, I will take my last stick that looks like it's got a hockey puck welded to the end and I will stand in some spot and bend over and then do my very best impersonation of a Grandfather clock.
It makes for an afternoon.

Exciting Open, however I feel a little bad for Zach. It kind of reminds me of Stewart Cink winning, but most people were more bummed for Tom Watson. It was like Cink denied history and now in somewhat similar fashion, history was denied for Spieth
I can give you a shortcut to scoring betterl when you aren't swinging well. For years I hit this wonderful cut that would get me roughly 220-230 off the tee but always w/ my 3 wood. And it was something I could hang my hat on. But it wasn't a good swing. I could hit the 3 Wood, 5 wood, and a 7 wood (and yes I even carried a 9 wood and a 11 wood on occasion). But because of my build' I was comfortable w/ a swing that was flawed. I couldn't hit my irons that well. But I simply "Hooded" the ball if I noticed the shot would move further to the right than I wanted. (Usually early in th game) and it's simple to do. But this next representation is your ball and the face of your club: Ol ....but at impact it becomes O/. Simply start out w/ your club face closed O\.... (maybe not that much....but you get the idea) and swing normally. Your shot should straighten out or even draw a bit. Then adjust your "hooding" depending on how the ball is flying. It's a good fix, for changing things "in game". Give it a try next time on the range. It's surprising something so small and simple can change things so much.
Nephew introduced me to the Swing by Swing golf app for Android... its a GPS locator that gives you pin yardage etc, but word to the wise, it doesnt help if you dont hit your irons consistantly. One hole told me I was 166 from the pin... 7 iron flew the green into a bunker... a few holes later it told me I was 158...8 iron came up 20 yards short LMAO

Well, I shot a 75 on the weekend. It was getting hot so I didn’t play the back nine. 
But the good news? I finally found a wood guaranteed to lower my scores. Its called a pencil.
