Would you be happy if you're getting hit 3 yards in the backfield every time you touch the ball?

He missed one gaping hole and suddenly the story is he can't see the field.

Crazy.

Why is nobody talking about his suspicious injury during TC, same as Henderson's, and gets well at the same time as Henderson? I thought it "hinky" at the time and now we find out malcontention in reports from Jordan all the way back to TC. Was Akers faking injury?

Maybe Cam and Samples had words and since hes staying with the Rams they're having coach Brown work with Cam instead of Samples to to appease him.

We will rally behind our walking wounded OL and malcontent RBs and we will lick….I mean kick TBs ass.

My only complaint is the handling of the situation. Please keep everything in house instead of the media next time, makes our team look like idiots. Hopefully all parties can move on and stop bullshitting. Let's focus on winning Rams!
Agreed.

I think he had more of an issue with Samples and maybe Coen then McVay. Especially with word that Brown was going back to being involved with the RBs as part of his duties. Something happened there between him and Samples would be my guess.

Either way, Cam is being paid and has a job to do. Having a difference of opinion with a coach isn’t a good excuse to not practice hard.

Wasn’t it reported that he was not happy with the teams direction with the run game? I’m sure Jourdan said that on her podcast.
Given that the direction has been mostly sideways, backwards and down, I’m not all that happy with it either.

The hire of Samples is on Thomas Brown, he hired him. McVay wanted to empower Brown and give him the opportunity to hire his replacement, IMO, so far the results have not been good.

But before we start communicating about the coaching staff and looking down the road for adjustments next year, I will give it some more time. However, you hire a young guy like Ra'Shad Samples and the RB room seems to have issues from day one and now Thomas Brown is asked to get back involved with that position. Overall, I'm thinking that both Brown & Samples have been subpar to this point, but the same could be said for the likes of other assistants too.

Thing is - he didn't miss just one massive hole

He has missed a bunch of other holes that he could run thru.

We know Samples was supposed to be this young up and coming offensive coach that would add his style to our running game. Well, running game is failing but at the same time Samples obviously doesn't coach OL.

Like others have said here it's probably a difference of opinion between Akers and Samples. Cam hinted that he clicks more with Brown so I take that as a possible discomfort with what Samples is requiring him to do. Obviously we want Cam to excel at all the RB duties, so I'm thinking he's been suggested to change or adjust his play style and Akers isn't comfortable with that. If he doesn't listen to the assistant coach he gets taken out. Most players need to be somewhat coachable. Akers is probably going yeah I tried that it ain't working let me just do what I do best instead of trying to change me.

In my HS playing days I remember my HC liked me a lot. But the assistant who was a cool guy was on my ass during one game. Sometimes it's the AC's who bring down the hammer if they see you fail at something. So I got taken off defense for a bit and stayed on O. Funny thing that same game when I was biyached at by that coach a younger kid walked up to me on the sideline and asked why wasn't I in and said he loves the way I sack the QB. :laugh1::thinking: But that's a whole 'nother story.

They also brought in Jay Gruden late. Washington usually had a good running game when he coached iirc.

It seems odd that how to run the ball has become such a mystery for this team. Could this be too much imposition by McVay? Other teams run the ball. It’s been done for decades. Maybe McVays vision for the run game is not accomplishable, without a Gurley level runningback. Maybe they need to get back to basics and simplify. It’s not rocket science.

I wonder is age/maturity is in play here, on either of these guys. Samples is what, like 4 years older than Akers.....

That's right Gruden the advisor. Maybe he's not stepping on toes (yet!) who knows, but it's time to try something that works. And with the innovative O coaches we have it boggles the mind. I point to possible tendencies or tells but I'm sure they go over that. Other than obvious shaky OL, could be as simple as a blueprint.

....Yeah I considered the coach age thing too. Bring in a young coach, what does he know? Apparently something since his college teams did well running. Maybe he should try to grow a beard like McVay to look older! :zany1:

Cam Akers Returns to Rams After 'Good Conversation' with Coach McVay

After fully participating in practice on Thursday and Friday, will Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers suit up for Sunday's matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Third-year running back Cam Akers never left the Los Angeles Rams - technically.
During the 19-day period that started with Akers missing practice while "working through some things" and ended with him returning to the Rams' facility on Wednesday just one day after the NFL's trade deadline, it appeared certain that the former second-round draft pick had played his final down in Los Angeles.

Though Akers never formally requested a trade, he and the team seemed to have grown apart, largely due to a lack of agreement on the ex-Florida State star's role. In the five games he appeared in before the trade talks began, Akers saw a modest 51 carries but mustered just 151 yards, earning a subpar three yards per rush.

Akers has yet to eclipse more than 30 snaps in a game and his overall efficiency and explosiveness have dramatically declined since sustaining a torn Achilles during the 2021 offseason.

As late as Wednesday, even after the trade deadline, it seemed as if Akers may still be on his way out, with Rams coach Sean McVay admitting that a release was possible. But nevertheless, the 23-year-old is back in the mix, at least partially due to a productive conversation with McVay during the week.

"We ended up having a good conversation and we felt like the best thing moving forward was to be able to try to get him back here, get him going," McVay said. "We’re a better team when he ends up being the guy that we know. (I) felt good about our discussion, so that's how we'll move forward accordingly."

Officially on the roster, the next step for Akers is getting back to game action. His first opportunity to do so comes Sunday when the Rams hit the road for a contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McVay said that the Rams are "still working through" whether or not Akers will be able to play, A full participant in practice both Thursday and Friday, Akers had "a good day of work" in his return to the field and continues to ramp up as he gets back into football shape.

Los Angeles' Super Bowl-winning coach broke down the final deciding factors as to whether or not Akers is active on Sunday, with most centering around conditioning.

“Really just seeing how he feels physically and then just looking at (his) ability to digest everything," said McVay. "But most important thing is just with him having been off for the last couple weeks, ‘All right, how is he feeling physically?’ and making sure that we don't leave him susceptible to any unnecessary things like of a soft tissue nature, things like that.”
As a result, Akers will likely be a game-time call Sunday, but after all, signs pointed to him being elsewhere at this point, the status of his availability is a welcomed question for McVay and the Rams' staff.
Through the chaos, Los Angeles knew its team could benefit from Akers' presence, should he be able to get back to the form he flashed early in his career.

In the end, Akers and the Rams managed to hash things out, and with tension surely at an all-time high, persevered through the storm together.

Now, they'll look to get both their individual and team seasons back on track, beginning Sunday inside Raymond-James Stadium against Tom Brady's Bucs, with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. local time.

It could just go back to how they draft. It seems that they look for smaller, do it all backs and more nimble Olinemen. The fact that the biggest heaviest Olineman Jackson may be their best should tell them that the old ZBS mold of lineman won’t cut it since defensive linemen have only gotten bigger, stronger and faster.

OL coach Bill Callahan became available a few years ago. I really was hoping McVay would grab him, but he didn’t. The Browns Oline was blocking well in his first year there.

exactly. nfl will need to help oline with more rules like wr recieved. or teams might have to try to convert dline to oline to find more athleticism.

CJ Anderson says hello.

This is an Oline issue. Missing holes is bad, but if you’re constantly getting hit behind the line or at the line, you’re not really expecting holes to appear

I agree that Callahan is a terrific OL-coach. However, I keep coming-back to the quality of OL players.

Callahan's first season in Cleveland was 2020. The Browns' O-Line that year featured two former high first round picks (Conklin #8 and Wills #10) and a very high second round pick (Bitonio #35); and a Center (Tretter) who had been a highly sought after free agent a couple years earlier. The starters that year were also healthy, with just seven total missed games all season.

By comparison, the highest drafted Rams' starter was Havenstein (#57). Due to injuries, the five projected starters have already missed 12 games; and that number will go up to 15 tomorrow. Add to that, two of the three projected top reserves are on season-ending-IR.

Regardless of coaching or scheme, teams can't just roll-out anyone. The Rams have been starting back-ups to the back-ups and a street free agent. The top two reserves are also street free agents.
