My big question for people smarter than me (which is all of you) is why would our scheme not work? It worked with Gurley and we've had successful running seasons. Why would it NOW be broke? And what's broke?
OL brotha. It’s in shambles. I don’t care who’s back there. It’s still going to be a disaster. Regardless, Cam, in my mind, is our best RB on the roster. Whether that’s saying much or not, I don’t know.

McVay has to be frustrated with the run game. You know he is. But wtf is he hearing from his staff to get him to end up with the same fucking RB group that has effed him multiple seasons. That's what pisses me off in this entire evolution. Hendy, Akers, Brown. The three amigos of disappointing run game outings and frequent injuries when the team needs them. And now we can add childish eruption to Akers probably, even if he is likely correct, because the team has to come first if you want to be great and his ass just got carried to a ring.

I can't even put into words how frustrated I am by the entire thing. It's almost unbelievable when you consider the quality of McVay and his approach.

It is definitely the O-line. Same thing happened when we had Gurley back there one year. And, in fairness to Cam and McVay... Cam was running great in the latter part of his rookie season. Then the injury. We all thought he'd be back to running well this season. So in reality, this poor run game kinda snuck up on us a bit. I know some would point to last year, and I did too, but we all hoped that Boom, Edwards, Allen, Bruss, and Hav would pull them out of it. Unfortunately, four of those starters went out with injuries and here we are.

Jourdan's article does not paint things in a good light for Akers in my opinion. There's a reason there is a hierarchy or pecking order in professional sports. Coaches coach. Players play.

I doubt McVay woulda done what he did with him if it was just frustration and a quick blow up. But it sounds like maybe Akers was getting annoying showing his discontent in subtle ways. Comments under his breath. Obvious body language. Not going all out in practice as a way of protesting his case. If its been going on for months McVay finally got fed up. How many coaches would let it go on this long?

Speaking of the Rams' OL.... was just watching America's game 1972 Dolphins and even though that was then, this is now, their great OL consisted of rejected players from other teams. All were FAs and none were drafted by Dolphins. OL coach Monte Clarke probably had a lot to do with it. But pretty dang impressive. Would have to dig to find a current comparison. But oh to have a running game like those Dolphins... one can only dream.

That's what I kind of figured myself! Just didn't know if there was more to it!

At this point, it looks like Akers might be - at least in part - right. No other back is excelling in the current system. Yes, OL, is a huge part of the problem but then we are not making it any easier for them or is it just me who sees our scheme as part of the problem running the ball?

Based on this article, plenty of posters here have been airing attacks on Cam that are perhaps then based on thin air

Personally, I hope they find some common ground and Akers shows us what we have all seen, that he is capable of being a dominant RB
Thin air and watching him miss holes that an 18-wheeler can drive thru.

I don’t buy into the scheme being a problem, they just won the Super Bowl.

Being a diva who wants more touches is common. But, when you don’t have the horses to get it blocked, adjustments have to be made.

Suck it up buttercup you signed up and are getting paid well. Go to work and do what your boss asks if you.

I have not watched the all 22, but to me it seems the issue is the ZBS and the personnel being asked to run it.

That and not playing more 12 personnel like we have in the past. What about running more play action? Why can’t we trend back to the offence we ran more of when we had similar problems in the past? The OL was possibly no better the one time we missed the playoffs but we simplified the blocking scheme and were still able to run he ball far more effectively

Hey.. if this is a wake up call and he comes back playing with real energy.. like his rookie year.. that’s a plus.
Gonna be tough behind that line, though.

He knows mcvay will ask him to pass pro more than ever. That type of wear and tear will cost him years in the nfl.
I don't follow you. You mean snaps where he runs into multiple 300+ pound athletes and being tackled and twisted, is safer than blocking a guy?

It’s not the scheme per se but when we are down to guys signed off the street, do you perhaps have to change things up - at least for now - to make it work? If we could just get a hat on a hat that would be better than much of what we have seen! It’s been tragic even when not necessarily showing up in the stats - and we are ranked near bottom on those.

I personally question whether running so much 11 personnel is part of the problem - only for now - not long term. By the end of the season with a better quality OL then I could see it being highly effective again
