I'm picking up what you're putting down...
Furthermore, If they can get thru game #1 before signing JG, his contract wouldn't be guaranteed
Well I'll say this as well, if the Rams know they aren't keeping Bennett around long and feel confident they can pull JG back as the #2, I think they'd be wise to let Bennett play if they think he'll show out. Could be a good trade chip for a desperate team.

Nobody going to trade for a guy who hasnt started a game in 3 years and has been mediocre in pre-season play. Practice squads are littered with Stetson Bennett type talent, not need to trade for one

Great piece on Kinchens. Rams need to, and we need to get it in our heads that we are now a "Defense-first" team.

Means being more conservative on offense, being willing to punt, and the head coach needs to call plays more conservatively. Next time be content going into Halftime with a 3-point lead in the Championship Game.
I think we'll see that to an extent, but I don't think the philosophy changes much at all. In fact, I think they'll be more aggressive at times because they have the Defense to mitigate mistakes. So if it's 4th and 1 at the opposing teams 2 yard line, they're gonna go for it.

That kind of covers everything. They went for it last year because they didn't trust their defense enough to hold a small lead and they will go for it this year because they trust their defense to hold the fort. I wasn't really talking about Red Zone "go for its," more talking about McVay's play calling style and lack of running clock as he did before half at Seattle last January.

Well, there you go. Bennett needs more work. I think it also means if he gets injured, the Rams think they can get Jimmy G. Maybe even if he doesn't.

Bennett has been around long enough, that if he can't move the offense and score and not throw INTs it is time to cut him loose.
Yup, Bennett has a big opportunity here. A good performance could just settle the whole thing.

There's no way Jimmy G is back on this team as a backup. Only way that happens is if Stafford gets injured and he's coming in as a starter imo. They have $15 million in cap space and if AD is coming back they will need every bit of that to fit him on the roster. Even with out AD they need breathing room throughout season so they need to have cheap backup talent where they can get it.

Sean McVay: “It’s going to be really hard to play as a rookie for us, and that’s a positive thing. That gives you a chance to go and engage” in these preseason games. All of the Rams’ rookies will play a lot this month.
Well that's a slight change. The last 3 drafts saw a number of rookies play a significant amount of time. And it is a good thing. That means they are confident in the vet roster.

I'm excited to see Simpson take a shit ton of snaps in the upcoming games. Sure makes preseason more fun when you have a young redshirt QB to throw out there.

Also eager to see Bennett at lesat start this first one. By now he should have full mastery of the offense on the mental side. Just distribute the ball quick and clean and make good decisions. Throw it away when you need to. Etc. Figure if he's sharp they shuttle his ass out of there rather quickly and that's a wrap.

If not, well, buckle up. Things might get interesting because if Bennett can't dunk the rook in competition after all this time in the offense, they might as well just make Simpson the QB2. But I do expect Bennett to play well.

Yep. Lately, Snead has been referencing teams having different phases of building. Hard for a rookie to break into a fully built team.

This offense is going to always win the TOP. The D will make sure of that. Plus how many points do you think the D is going to score?
I'm going to predict the D will have more than 6 pick sixes.
“That’s a bold statement.”

I hope you’re right. It would make things a lot easier.
I’m not getting any younger and these Rams always find a way to make me clench.

Yeah that was unfortunate. Game turned on us in a bad way so quickly.

I'm not saying we'll get an absurd return for him so no idea why no one would trade for him if Bennett ultimately isn't in the Rams long term plans and they somehow are convinced they can get JG back for the #2 role..... what if there's an injury to a QB that runs a McVay type offense? The attraction would be a QB that has a shorter learning curve with team being limited before the season starts. Its not outta the realm for the Rams to get a late round pick.

I hear you.

I think it just depends on what way you rank teams. Like… Seattle was 6th in yardage which is the traditional metric. They were the best D, imo.

I think the Rams will lead in sacks and turnovers… I think yardage might be a function of the offense. If they’re just on fire… there maybe a bunch of “empty” yards for opposing teams.
I have always been about points scored.

I know, the bend but don’t break stuff gets frustrating and doesn’t generate enough big plays—unless you have the clock and score in your favor. The idea of a defense being out there all day costs you sooner or later too. Then there’s garbage time stats that can give a misconception of the pass and run defense all together.

So yardage doesn’t do it for me. Just keep them out of the end zone.

Like my dad once said, “ every run you score, it takes two to beat you.”

Our defense let us down last year, not the offense. Thats why im sick and tired of hearing about the seahawks defense. The Rams scored 85 points against them in 3 games. They were not a problem for McVay.
The Rams gave up more.
