As an aside @El Chapo Jr , how are your balls tingling when it comes to Jimmy G or Kirk Cousins as our veteran backup QB? Enquiring minds want to know!

Saleh sitting with Shanny. I think Dan Campbell was at their table.

McVay was in a group with Sean Peyton and Matt Lafluer.

What does everyone else see?
It’s just a short video. Protocol is likely to visit with all head coaches and give your regards, ask about their family and how friends and acquaintances are working out for them.

If it’s significant, it seems to be a prudent decision.
Shrewd but not the way the Rams do it
The Rams could have saved significant cap space when Donald retired but not only did they not do it, they re-worked his deal to include send off $$ as well
As to the size of it? Cant be much. I don’t know when he signed his extension. Looks like it was back in ‘21 so 3 maybe 4 mill? In any event, the Lions aren’t saying it’s about cap space they are puffing their chest about upholding their tradition

It’s a signing bonus, not a staying bonus. I’m fine with the Rams continuing to do right by the players that play for them, regardless of how long they’re here.
I thought the dollars were from guaranteed money. Regardless, if a player decides to retire early, I think you have to factor in more details. I'm not saying one shoe fits all feet.

Yeah... doing something because we've always done it that way is pretty lame. But... LIONS. I think there is a significant difference here in that the Rams apparently knew and even had talks with Donald and knew he may very well retire when he did. AD also was a an all NFL player and not only helped get us to two SBs but was a real significant key to winning it. He's also a sure fire first ballot hall of fame.

I don't think you can really put Ragnow in that company. Very good player? Certainly. But he also only played 7 years. I have to wonder if the Rams would do the same for a similar player.

I have never really been in that camp of bitching about how the Rams spend their money. So I wouldn't complain if they have a policy where they pay contracts to retiring players. I can just see the justification on the Lions' part for doing what they are doing in this case. But I am not a Lions fan and don't really know how the fans view Ragnow. I also don't know how the players view the situation. Do they think the Lions are just being cheap? Is it a black eye to potential future FAs? All things that need to be considered.

I'm just not sure you extend a policy out to say that any player that retires early, gets his whole contract.

He's in the company of having to pay back his bonus
I'm glad the team I root for says to its players, thank you for a great career. And in return, Aaron Donald and Whitworth have remained very active with the organization.
Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders? 2 Iconic legends who have participated very little with the organization
To me its penny wise and dollar foolish

" The HC says he believes it’s important to tell players what’s going on and what was being discussed."

Paging Cooper Kupp... :eyeroll:
OTOH...maybe they did tell Kupp... but, it was a disaster, anyway for a guy that contributed so much....
Might have been a lesson learned there, albeit a little too late...

Reading Dragon Quest is awesome, but how about playing the Dragon Quest series? Those are awesome role-playing games.

...I'll stop derailing the thread now.
I would love to do a role playing game - I am such a nerd

But haven't met anyone that would like to do it
