I love how they contradict themselves.
So this draft sucks and next year looks great. So some team is going to trade great draft assets to move up in a weak class.
Got it
Well, some front offices won't be around for next years draft so if you need help now, you go get it.

Look at the Bills. For various reasons they need to get over the hump now, as in yesterday. They don't care about the 27' draft, especially since they don't need a QB. The Ravens, Texans, Lions, and even the Chargers are in the same boat. The Eagles window is open now as is the Niners. Do you think Jerry Jones is waiting for 27'? He might not be here by then as is the case for Arthur Blank. Those teams aren't waiting for 27'.

So yes, some teams in search of filling a hole on their OL, or at WR, or TE, CB, a pass rusher, etc... will move up if they have a target in mind.

Now, there are other teams like the Jets, Raiders, Giants, Cardinals, Dolphins, etc... that can be patient.

Jimmy Johnson’s trade chart (in use 2013) is pretty much irrelevant today, Rich Hill’s chart is now the accepted model. e.g. JJ gave the first overall pick a point value of 3000. Hill gives 1000 pts for first pick. So your TVC examples in previous post are outdated.
That is entirely unresponsive to my point. I don't care which trade value chart you use.

Heard today NFL scouts like Keldrick Faulk a lot more than the talking heads. Most expect him to go top 10. Obviously if that happens it pushes somebody down.
Interesting. This is a guy I've suggested several times here that the Rams should draft.

The way I see it you either build your offense around a franchise QB(the best way) or a franchise back.

There are no franchise QB’s this year, and it’s no guarantee there will be one next year either despite the franchise weather man saying it’s going to be sunny with rainbows next year.
How many drafts would you be willing to punt 1st rd picks into the future?

I believe if there’s a potential franchise back within reach this year, now, you consider it. You can build around that too.

Look, Im not saying you or anyone else who disagrees with me are wrong. You’re not. I will say that anyone calling my philosophy crazy just doesn’t understand how things can change from year to year and that there no guarantees that McVay and the Rams are simply going to replace Stafford using draft picks whenever the time comes.
I see the big difference in our perspectives. I don't believe you build an offense around a franchise back. Not in the modern, post-Mike Martz NFL.

Something about Auburn players that I just don’t trust.

  • Tre Mason (RB): Drafted in the 3rd round in 2014; played for St. Louis from 2014–2016.
  • Greg Robinson (OT): Drafted 2nd overall in 2014; played for the Rams from 2014–2016.
  • Wayne Gandy (OT): Drafted in the 1st round in 1994; played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1994–1998.
  • Blake Countess (DB): Played for the Rams from 2016–2018 and in 2021.
  • Jarquez Hunter (RB): Drafted by the Rams in the 4th round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Here are a few more forgettable Auburn Rams...

Brian Smith. I believe it was the same year the Rams drafted Bill Hawkins, they drafted Smith in the 2nd rd. A 6'6" DE out of Auburn. Problem was he was only 245lbs, and he never did a thing.

David Rocker was okay. I think he was a UDFA in the late 80's early 90's. The team just sucked then so it didn't much matter what he did.

This really is a good thread and should serve as a cautionary tale for those teams in the top 5. I don't believe he will be picked in the top 5 myself, I think he lands with the Commodes.

Surprising. I don't like him at edge at all. Bump him inside and you might have something, but, he didn't produce much at all in college and I'm rarely on board with that kind of history.

I looked at him early on but as much as I like versatility it's not something I'd value up top. Up there I'd want a rusher who is going to affect the QB on a high percentage of snaps.

I also want pass rush but think you'd get it from him if put in the right position. I don't consider him to have the requisite bend for an edge defender, but he'd excel at 5T.

Agree, he likely would excel at 5T, but still leery in that he didn't produce in college and its all a projection. He was a very good run defender at edge, but, will that translate as well with a move to 5T? Not sure he could be as disruptive inside, yet he is likely a better pass rusher inside. Too much of a project for us at this stage IMO>

I agree that there is some projection with him, but not much as it pertains to his run defense. He was extremely versatile and got snaps all the way from 9T to 3T. So, we've already seen great run defense at 5T. IMO, the biggest area of projection is what does his pass rush look like at 5T.

We already have one Edge who has the power to flex to a 5T type position in Verse. Ideally I prefer a bendy rusher, or speed type, to complement him.

What would be cool is someone good enough to move Verse to strong side, where his skills seem more suited.

Another trade back/ quantity draft to strengthen depth across the roster. BTW, this approach helps for the future if they have to sacrifice a draft or two for a QB trade.

I really like McDonald. Would be fine with the Rams taking him at 13 in fact. Plus Hurst and Heidenreich. So I could definitely get behind that draft. :thumbsup1:

My projected use for him wouldn't be an edge at all. Pure 5T.

He has 20 lbs on Verse who weighed in at the combine at 254 and listed by his school at 265. Faulk weighed in at 276 and is listed by Auburn at 285.

FWIW, I'd like a bendy rusher too but that's an entirely different discussion.

Right on. It is a hard role to find too, in terms of finding that ideal, because you need guys built with that classic and long 4-3 end type frame. But I'd be a bit disappointed if we made him our pick up high.
