NFL teams have demonstrated they will pay for upside at QB, which is what you get with Lawrence. He has enormous upside if and when he puts shit together. I think it's a bad practice but teams are that desperate for quarterbacking.

Worst thing you can do in today's league, IMO, is pay a mediocre QB. You are better off going from one unproven guy to another until you hit on one who can play at a high level than paying some mediocre bastard a huge chunk of your cap.

Longtime NFL and college coach Monte Kiffin dies at 84​

Longtime NFL and college coach Monte Kiffin has died at the age of 84, the University of Mississippi announced on Thursday.

Kiffin passed away peacefully in Oxford, Mississippi, surrounded by friends and family, the school said.

“As his grandson Knox said, he’s free of pain and smiling down on us from above,” the school said in a statement on social media. “Please keep the Kiffin family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”

Kiffin was a longtime defensive coordinator in the NFL, spending 13 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys.

He was also noted as the mastermind behind the “Tampa 2” defensive scheme which helped lead the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl XXXVII victory over the Oakland Raiders in 2002.

The Buccaneers-owning Glazer family said Monte was a “beloved and iconic member” of the organization.

“As a coach, Monte was a true innovator who got the best out of his players and helped create one of the signature defenses of the early 2000s,” the Glazer family said in a statement.

“His passionate and energetic leadership style resonated with all his players, and he was instrumental in our first Super Bowl win and the success of Hall of Famers such as Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch and Ronde Barber. Off the field, Monte was kind, genuine, gracious and always had a positive attitude.

“He was very special to the Buccaneers organization and our family. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Robin, sons, Lane and Chris, daughter, Heidi, and the entire Kiffin family.”

Kiffin also served as the defensive coordinator on his son Lane’s staff while at the University of Tennessee in 2009, the University of Southern California from 2010-2012 and then as a defensive analyst at Florida Atlantic University.

Lane has been the head coach of Ole Miss since 2020 where Monte has been an analyst on the staff.

RIP to that true legend. Was always a huge thorn in the Rams side during the GSOT days. Few coaches make the kind of impact to how the NFL is played like he did. Respect.

Report: Seahawks sign speedy All-UFL receiver with deep kick return experience​


The Seattle Seahawks have a couple of open roster spots available just a week out from the start of training camp. It looks like one of those spots will go to another UFL player.

Former West Virginia wide receiver Marcus Simms has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Seahawks, according to Pro Football Network’s James Larsen. Simms has spent the past two seasons playing for the Michigan Panthers, both in the USFL and the current UFL (which merged several XFL and USFL teams into one league).

Simms earned All-UFL honors with 23 catches for 426 yards and 3 touchdowns over the eight-game regular season. Two of his touchdowns were over 60 yards.

At West Virginia, Simms caught 87 passes for 1,457 yards and 8 touchdowns over three seasons from 2016-2018. After going undrafted, Simms signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019, but he never played an NFL snap. He was placed on injured reserve during preseason before being waived, and didn’t get back into pro football until joining the Michigan Panthers in 2023.

Also of note about Simms is his special teams experience. He returned over 40 kickoffs in his last two seasons at West Virginia, and brought back 13 kicks with the Panthers. Simms also blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown in the 2023 season. With the NFL modifying its kickoff rules (which the UFL did not implement, incidentally), Simms is a low-cost candidate and at the very least a training camp body.

The other UFL player on the Seahawks roster is former Birmingham Stallions running back Ricky Person Jr.

Damn Jaguars, it’s like there’s money itching in Khan’s pockets. First a bad extension for Lawrence (his numbers weren’t great) and then an extension for a CB that I’ve never heard of that they’re paying top dollar.
