The pundits all look at the same 20 names and place them somewhere in the 1rst round, with rare exception. The next 20-30 guys get injected into the 1rst in enough mocks you believe they belong.

Then reality hits. Even if the experts nail 15-20 1rst rounders, those players don’t perform to that level or bust altogether.
Then it becomes just another case of, “boy, were we wrong.” Then they move onto the next draft season.

Meanwhile, the GMs who consistently miss on those top picks cost people their jobs and eventually, they lose theirs as well.

So our first pick was #77 and these guys think we should have had 4 first rounders. And these same pundits lost couldn't stop criticizing our #13 pick this year :D

Not to ruin your post - it's a good one - but our first pick in that draft was #36 with Avila.

Still an outstanding piece of drafting art - and that's not even mentioning Warren McClendon (stud right tackle, please re-sign him, McSnead), Davis Allen (solid third tight end who's been bumped to fifth because of how good everyone else has been), Desjuan Johnson (who has actually been a solid Mr. Irrelevant and fourth edge rusher who has the potential for more), and possibly Ethan Evans (if he ever gains consistency, that's our punter of the future).

Avila at 25 feels a bit rich. But there's no doubt that was one hell of a draft.

That was one helluva draft.
All of those players you mentioned have been steady contributors at the very least. McClendon is now in a position to shine and you’re right about Evans—consistency. He could be one of the best.

2023 was the pivotal year in this incarnation of the Rams. After the horrendous 5-12, 2022 season, Stafford's injuries, McVay contemplating retirement, 2021 bill coming due (Ramsey trade), there was a chance we could have faded out.

That Draft, led by the GREAT, Puka Nacua is probably the all-time Rams Draft, and is the main reason we are where we are today. A perennial high-playoff team that is a threat to win it all every year.
