1. I'm not one for hypotheticals... I prefer to analyze the game I saw.

2. That said, with a healthy Matthew Stafford, I think there's a good chance we would have walked away with a win today.

3. Brett Rypien is not an NFL QB. Period. End of story.

4. The Rams need a professional backup behind Stafford. In today's NFL, the chance of having to get a win or two in the course of a 17 game season without your QB1 is pretty high. You can't march out a guy who has a weak arm, no pocket presence, and telegraphs his throws.

5. I guess the Rams thought they would have their QB2 in Stetson Bennett. I never liked the pick, even before he was shelved. Clearly, we can't rely on him going forward (sorry, that's the reality). The Rams MUST have a better Plan B next year.

6. While the lack of a credible QB was the biggest issue today, it was not the only issue.

7. Sean McVay's poor play calling on 3rd and 4th and short cost the Rams three drives. Would the Rams have generated points if they had converted? Who knows? But, in a game that was close most of the day, every possession counts.

8. The running game never had a chance. With good reason, Green Bay saw no reason to fear the pass.

9. You can't blame the defense for this one. They made some good stops, and generated 4 sacks and 2 turnovers.

10. There were some 3rd down breakdowns, but they held up their end of the bargain, for the most part.

11. The DBs had some issues in coverage (Russ Yeast really blew an opportunity to make a play on the final scoring drive). Our CB room will probably have some new faces next year.

12. I've seen enough of Lambeau Field, thank you very much.

13. Someone needs to invent better rain cleats.

14. Nobody deserves Offensive Player of the Week. I'll give it to Cooper Kupp by default (led team with 48 yards).

15. On defense, I'll split the award between two rookies: Kobie Turner (10 tackles, 1 sack) and Byron Young (10 tackles, 2 sacks).

16. When I see Byron Young, a 3rd round pick, with 5 sacks in 9 games, I can understand why the Rams would not have wished to trade draft capital for the opportunity to give Chase Young or Montez Sweat a mega-FA deal.

17. The Packers probably walked away with a beef over some ticky-tack penalties, but the offensive PI on Nacua was a BS call that really impacted the game. If the defender impedes the receiver and the receiver fights his way free, that's not PI.

18. The bye week comes at a good time. The Rams need to get healthy and regroup. I still think it is possible to get back into the playoff hunt, but the hope is much dimmer now.

19. The Rams are 3-6... just like they were after 9 games last year. I feel strongly that this is a better team with more talent and more reason for hope but, at the end of the day, you are what your record says you are. Last year, 3-6 became 3-9. I don't expect that to happen again, but it sure feels like a long time since we've seen this team put together four quarters of quality football.

20. Its going to be a long two weeks.

Great post, especially after watching that. We haven’t had much luck this season but need some better players if we are going to win even when we don’t get the rub

The failure to have a decent backup QB is unforgivable. They went cheap and got bit.

20RT Footnote...

What an unbelievably bad day for the NFC West. The Rams, Seahawks and Cardinals all lost by a combined score of 84-6 (and the 49ers, on a bye, have lost their last 3 games).

On a day when we desperately needed the OL to step the fuck up and run block we rush for a lousy 68 fucking yards.

McVay tried again and again to the tune of 26 rushing attempts.

Meanwhile, GB rushes for 184 yards at nearly 5 yards a pop.

I can almost hear the roof blowing off the OL room.

Well GB played the defensive players near the line of scrimmage daring Rypien to pass whereas Morris did not challenge Love to pass

Morris defense is decent but giving up 20 points to GB is sacrilege as far as I am concerned

Can't agree with everything. I don't think this team is better than last years. The only difference is this team is healthier than last year.

I'm not sure about winning with Stafford. They've had trouble scoring 20 points with him too. Maybe better field position changes things with him. But he's thrown his share of untimely picks. So who knows

I think it's fair to start focusing on next season. Even a healthy Stafford isn't gonna make us a .500 team.

The harsh reality is that some teams have better production with less, on both sides of the ball. We keep making excuses for McVay and Morris because of our lack of talent.

Are we seeing the lack of talent contribute to the lack of production on both sides of the field? Absolutely. Can we argue that the schemes we've been running leave a lot to be desired as well? Absolutely. Both things can be true and I think we should address both this offseason.

I'm glad you brought this up. That was the most disappointing thing today. They did everything what most were clamoring for which is run and they failed. 3rd and 4th and shorts can't get a couple yards? Yeesh.

20RT Footnote 2...

At first, I was only able to remember one sack by Byron Young today. Then, I realized that when he hit Jordan Love causing him to throw a backwards pass that went out of bounds, that actually gave him credit for a strip-sack.

Young's 5 sacks lead all rookies at the moment. Not bad for the 77th pick.

In fact, if you're looking for bright sides, getting one of the best rookie OL in the 2nd round (Steve Avila) the rookie sack leader in the 3rd round (Young) and the rookie receiving leader in the 5th round (Puka Nacua) is pretty darn good... and why I do think our talent (and, equally as important, young talent) is superior this year.

Avila had his worst game to date today. No player is perfect; let’s hope he learns from his mistakes.

I saw a couple of bad gaffes, but I really think that, out of fear of Rypien's limitations, McVay failed to put the offense in a position to succeed today.

There were a few questionable calls each way. #17 (i see what you did there), there was a hold on the corner and Nacua removed the corner’s arms. At worse, a flag on both, replay the down.

Conversely, first drive, Nacua got away with a push off. Did it create separation and get him open, yes.

I’m not certain what happened on the fumble recovery. I don’t think the GB receiver maintained possession to the ground.

There was also egregious holding on Turner all game. Probably a third of the plays. Also on the forward pass by Love, that was initially a fumble, should have been grounding. Love was still in the pocket and threw it into the ground.

No way in hell this team is better than last year. We had way more talent. If you said they have a chance to be better next year then I'd run with that. Other than that, I do agree with most of what you said.

You can't just expect to run the ball well when the other team has no fear of our passing game. Gotta take what the defense gives you yet the Rams couldn't take shit. We were screwed the second Stafford was ruled out.

Jeff Fisher had better looking offenses than this while playing backup QBs non-stop. Rypien being crappy is a poor excuse. Jordan Love is not much better. Green Bay is a mess. This is a game that the Rams should have been able to win, or at the very least have been competitive in. Poor coaching and play calling on display IMO.

All. freakin. year. In every game. Win or lose, it's always people screaming to run the ball more. Complaining about going empty. Sean McVay being obsessed with Matthew Staffords arm. Etc etc.

They do it to their credit they did get 4, 5, 6 yards a pop. But if they can't get a yard or two at least once on a 3rd/4th and short it's on them. Not on defense expecting this or that.
