All of a sudden the NFC WEST is wide open. Boys buckle up, we are in for a ride. Just got a weird feeling about this season. First two weeks will tell us a lot.

So the Niners trade their 3rd-string-QB, and you think they are in trouble?
Turn that around. They're going with a guy who's played 7 NFL games (injured early in his 8th) being backed up by a guy in his 6th year, with his 3rd different team. Mr Irrelevant and Mr Irrelevant-he-was-drafted-#3. You think they're on easy street?:laugh2:

It was always wide open. Whiners have a good roster and unproven shit at QB. Squawks have a good roster and recycled shit at QB. Arizona has a shit roster and shit at QB. And the Rams have a Super Bowl winning Coach QB and the GOAT on defense along with Kupp. People can write the Rams off all they want but they have just as good of a shot as anybody to win the NFCW.

I'm watching them right now. Those RBs run through wide open lanes all day. It's like their OL is..... Good or something.

The shit bag, cousin fucking whiners are going to be as annoying as ever this season. Just hoping they choke it away at the end......again.

It is the very fact that they ARE trading their third string quarterback that shows they are in trouble.

How many first round picks did they just screw themselves out of anyway?

I don't disagree at all with your above-take on the 49ers.

However, I think you missed the point of my reply to the OP. The thread title refers to Trey Lance, and the first line reads ... 'All of a sudden the NFC WEST is wide open.'

I would argue that the Niners' 2023 situation and prospects were exactly the same this morning Before Lance was traded, as it was this afternoon Following the trade. Trey Lance (was already a huge failure by the 49ers' organization) but he was merely their #3 QB.

Trading a third-string-QB is NOT Impactful. It does not change the NFC West, making it 'suddenly wide open'.

They are F'd unless Brock becomes the next Kurt Warner.

And what are the chances of that?

And I am a SERIOUS Brock fan

Again, as I just responded to PARAM, I agree with your above comment.

Lance was a disaster for the Niners ... both the trade (three #1s and a #3) and his performance. However, THAT was the case before San Francisco traded him to Dallas. This trade does NOT (in my opinion) ... 'All of a sudden (make) the NFC WEST wide open' ... which is the first line of the original post.

I hope I am over-rating the Niners' roster; and your evaluation is accurate because I think they are loaded.

If not for injury issues/history at every level of both sides of the ball I'd say it was better. I'm pretty sure every starter on offense has had injury issues some greater than others. And while they have a good front 7, if healthy which is a huge if, I don't like their secondary as much as most do.

People around here gave up on the Rams D but are enamored with theirs and that secondary to me at least doesn't inspire fear.

Niners made the championship last year with Purdy as a rookie.

They have made Super Bowls and championships with G-string.

They don’t rely on top QB play to beat up on the NFC.

As long as they lose in the NFCCG or the Super Bowl, we can wait for their window to close.

Obviously they whiffed on Lance but that trade hasn't hurt them. They made a trade for a high pick for a starter and picked a 7th round flyer for a back up QB. They now have a starting QB and a backup QB. The fact that their names are different doesn't mean the cost was different.

Their amazing find of Purdy in round 7 offsets their whiff on Lance.

Exactly right. Who cares where you find you QB, as long as you FIND your QB.

FWIW, I am not yet sold on Purdy. His frame reminds me of our backup QB, but I honestly think Stetson has the better arm, sooo... We shall see. As we all know, you don't have to be Joe Montana to make that offense hum....

So, this means that you believe that Purdy is worth three 1st rd picks and a 3rd.
