But that season landed us Eric Dickerson in 83'That's a nice play-clip ... thanks for posting it.
However, when I saw the date (September 1982), I got a knot in my stomach. The 1982 season was an awful year for the NFL and its fans; and was Fucking Miserable for the Rams and their fans.
1982 was a strike-shortened-season ... just nine games total.
The first two weeks were played, then no football for two months.
The Rams opened at Green Bay and led the Packers 23-0 at halftime ... 23-0! The season should have ended right there! The Rams were out-scored 35-0 in the second half ... 35-0!!! Ugh.
After losing to the Lions in Week 2 (the above clip is from that game), the strike started. When they finally started-up again, the Rams went to Atlanta and led 14-0 after the first quarter ... then were out-scored 34-3.
The Rams finished 2-7. UGH!
I was always a big Ron Jessie fan. At the the time as a kid, I thought he was great, but looking back at his & Miller's careers, they were really just journeymen.Miller was an explosive WR.
I just looked Miller up and never realized he was a Vietnam Vet and a decorated one at thatMiller was an explosive WR.
Well... a big debate back then was that Pat Haden held us back by not being a real big armed stretch the field QB to take advantage of the weapons we had like Jessie and Harold Jackson and the like. Injuries got in the way of James Harris momentum... then Haden is decent but our offense never took the next step with himI was always a big Ron Jessie fan. Yeah, they never should have traded Jaworski. They should have developed him and they may have won a SB with that roster.Well... a big debate back then was that Pat Haden held us back by not being a real big armed stretch the field QB to take advantage of the weapons we had like Jessie and Harold Jackson and the like. Vince taking us to the Super Bowl had a lot of people wondering what a Ron Jessie could have done with better QB PLAY
The one thing the 1979 season proved was that the organization had drafted well.. we'd developed players well leading up to that year. Because of the numbers of injuries and guys retiring in training camp, we had young unproven guys who stepped in... and finally with better QB play from Ferragamo... we take a lead into the 4th quarter in the Super Bowl.Yeah, they never should have traded Jaworski. They should have developed him and they may have won a SB with that roster.

1976 NFCCGBack in the 70's and 80's, the Rams were a regular in the playoffs. The Rams could beat the Vikings or Cowgirls, but could never beat both of them and always winded up choking in the NFCCG. If we beat the vikings, the cowgirls would beat us or the other way around.
It sucked.
Not sure if anyone recalls a playoff game mid 70s I think. The Rams got the ball first and drove to the vikings 1/2 yard line. A replay showed they likely made a TD but the refs didn't award a TD. So on 4th and 1/2 a yard for a TD, the Rams (I think Tom Dempsey) had his 18 yard FG blocked and run back for a TD. The Rams later went down 17-0. They fought back to 17-13 but lost 24-13. I was crushed that season. With that defense back then, I couldn't understand why they didn't go for the TD. But back then the "book" said to take the points I guess.
Career stats weren't all that because injuries derailed both players. Not to mention, the QB issues the RAMS had during their time with LA. The eye test showed they were both high caliber playmakers.I was always a big Ron Jessie fan. I cannot imagine something like that happening today in the NFL. How exactly did it happen? The commissioner just came on live tv and said the NFL season would be stopping? Was it just in the newspapers? That's a nice play-clip ... thanks for posting it.

I love an optimistic view. So, I will add ...But that season landed us Eric Dickerson in 83'
That was the season that Madame Georgia Frontiere proved to be penny wise and dollar foolish. She would not pay Ferragamo after a record setting 1980 season, when Pat Haden was hurt and Vinnie rescued the Rams leading them to an 11-5 season throwing for 3200 yards and 30 touchdowns and would not pay Ferragamo leading him to Norther of the Boarder. That's a nice play-clip ... thanks for posting it.

IDK, Ron Jessie was better than that and 11 years close to 4300 yards and 26 TD's in an era that was run first and he did not play with an outstanding QB that is for sure. They were journeymen primarily because of two reasons:
One - our QBs sucked for the most part
Two - Knox was the coach for almost his entire career.
