After watching this brutal week 18 loss to the 49ers at Los Angeles (again), I actually enjoyed this version of the (condensed game) with no commercials.

I'm not dwelling or pointing fingers.

The Rams avenged this loss in the NFCC game and hoisted the Lombardi Trophy when all was said and done.

One thing about NFL football that I'm not a fan of, is the excuses by fans after a heartbreaking defeat their favorite team endures.

My "Top 6 Worst" excuses by NFL fans.

#1
. Play calling - That was a horrible play call by the offensive/defensive coordinator (situational - football), down & distance or we would've won the game.

#2. Turnovers - If (insert player) didn't fumble the ball or (insert player) throw an interception, we win the game.

#3. (Exempt of the starting QB) If our star player/s didn't get injured, we win the game. (This is why roster depth and coaching are so relevant)

#4. If (insert player) didn't have that stupid penalty late in the game, we win. (These hurt bad, but players should be much more aware late in games)

#5. If (insert player) didn't drop the ball right in his mitts, we win the game. (NFL players are human and don't catch every ball no matter the level of difficulty)

#6. Bad calls by the referees cost us the game. This excuse is the most difficult to debate because NFL refs have blown some critical game changing momentum calls late in big games.

I only reason with the bad call's excuses in (single elimination postseason games) late in the contest. This only resonates with me when it was clearly a horrific call, and it likely changed the outcome of the game because the losing team never got the ball back to have a chance to right the wrong.

Anyway, back to the subject matter of the post...

This loss to our biggest division rival, (San Francisco 49ers) was the Rams 6th defeat in row to SF. Our Rams were humbled, and their 5-game regular season winning streak ended.

11/28/2021 Packers 36 Rams 28 (Loss) 7-4
12/05/2021 Rams 37 Jaguars 7 (WIN) 8-4
12/13/2021 Rams 30 Cardinals 23 (WIN) 9-4
12/21/2021 Rams 20 Seahawks 10 (WIN) 10-4
12/26/2021 Rams 30 Vikings 23 (WIN) 11-4
01/02/2022 Rams 20 Ravens 19 (WIN) 12-4
01/09/2022 49ers 27 Rams 24 OT (Loss) 12-5

Other than the obvious reasons why the Rams collapsed, it's still a bit of a head scratcher after you watch it again months later.

It turned out to be a good thing that they beat us to get into the playoffs.

We are not a good matchup against Green Bay, and they took them out for us.

And we got to steal their soul in the NFC championship game.

Tackling on defense was terrible.

And with our starting safeties out, communication collapsed on the last 49er drive in regulation. More than one blown assignment in coverage.

That was the worst loss in the McVay era, AFAIC. At least it didn't sink us.

That was a brutal loss but the 2019 45-6 blowout to Baltimore was a total embarrassment. I went back to confirm how obscene it was. The Ravens rushed for 285 yards. The Rams had 22.

One of the reasons I enjoyed this year’s victory so much. Baltimore was without Jackson, and the game still came down to the final seconds but it helped knock the Ravens out of the playoffs.

Who cares about week 18? From what I hear the 49er fans are still crying about the NFC Championship game. The Bengals would have killed the 49ers. That's the matchup they wanted.

Karma is a terrible thing when its your turn to lose your soul. They came in overconfident and left broken, which is all that matters. It ushered in the Trey Lance era in SF.

Fuck the media, ask any team who is the one team they don't want to face in the NFC Title game? They are going to say the Rams, because of the matchups.

This team is much better this year than last year. Bruss is going to be the long terms fix at RG they have been searching for. Decobie is far better than his draft position reflects. If Decobie was an inch taller he's gone on day two. He can play inside or outside and now Morris has a CB, with Rochell on one side, that will allow Raheem to move Jalen anywhere he wants. That is a huge change in the secondary. Williams will be a legit #3 RB who will replace Michel as the 3rd down RB with the bonus he's a better receiver. Lake is a targeted safety aimed at replacing Rapp next year as Taylor is in a contract year. Hardy is targeted to replace Hollins next year as well. Hardy is sneaky good and has the talent to replace Lewis or at least be a solid rotational guy, all the while playing STs as a standout. Scott went from STs stand out to a potential starter if you remember. Hardy has the speed missing in Lewis. Daniel needs a year to develop but this gives Morris two rotational backups on both edges when combined with Garrett. Hardy has the athleticism that screams draft steal if he can reach his potential.

This was a sneaky good draft, filled with targeted players who are expected to fill specific roles next year. In the case of Bruss, he's going to start but Williams and Durant should see significant playing time. I guess you can see Bruss, Durant, Williams and Hardy are my favorites coming out of this draft. But I'm not sleeping on Lake and Yeast.

Physicality is how you play a McVay team. No doubt about it. But he has slowly year to year improved the trenches to account for that.

I think they're gonna stuff that 9ers run game this season and truck those bastids. Without that run game, or even just with it being contained, Rams will handle them.

I think the bad calls are a legitimate gripe in some circumstances. Take the last game the Rams played against the Steelers. That officiating was so laughably lopsided it should be the poster child for a fixed game. It was clear that the league wanted the Steelers to make the playoffs. That game helped them do it.

Another is, if we don’t have so many turnovers. Example Rams vs Buccaneers in January. The Rams won but without those turnovers (mostly unforced errors) that game is a blow out.

I think it was a case of "we got this". 5 losses in a row. A totally dominant first half and a 17-0 lead looked like that streak was going to end. Then we let up a 61 yard FG drive in 0:38 and it seemed like, "yeah just a FG, we still got this". Ultimately I believe it woke them up for the postseason.

This loss also blew McVay's halftime lead winning streak. This loss sucked in many ways!

Some of us care @oldnotdead.

Just because we whacked the 49ers in the NFCC game, doesn't guarantee we will own them in the 2022 regular season.

Shanny has owned McVay 6 of the last 7 games. 6 in a row during the regular season.

They play 2 more times in the 2022 regular season with their first contest at SF (10/03/2022) in week 4 Monday night a (prime time) game.

The Rams NFCC victory last season has nothing to do with the outcome of there 2022 regular season matches.

Did you read the opening of my post? I made it clear the Rams won the biggest game of their 3 matches. I merely asked for opinions of why they failed to beat them in the last game of the season when they had a 17-0 lead in a big game for both of them.

The Rams had an opportunity to lock up the #2 seed, and the 49ers needed a victory to make the playoffs.

I read the opening of your post of your case "Why the wait My case for Hunter vs Jefferson"

That post made no sense to me.

You obviously didn't factor in the value Jefferson is to the Rams and the salary cap consequences of such a trade overall.

This trade has a 10% chance of happening, and I didn't chime in to tell you how ridiculous it was breaking down the logical sense of all the parameters involved. (Some posters, did but I left it alone)

Some of us do care bro about the 49ers vs Rams regular season games in 2022.

And we don't guarantee victories based on last season's NFC Championship victory.

Read the entire opening post before you chime in with the who cares narrative... You might be surprised by how many do care.

We allowed them entry into the playoffs only to break their hearts in much greater fashion a few weeks later on national television.

All a part of the plan.

Stafford threw 2 picks
They sacked him 5 times and hit him 13 times
We couldn't run the ball
We couldn't tackle at all over the middle
We lost the recipe is simple to understand
