• The BattleHawks are coming off a dominant win, while the Brahmas aim to bounce back from their opening loss.
• Research suggests the BattleHawks’ rushing attack will be key, led by players like Jacob Saylors and J. Howard.

For the Brahmas, quarterback Kellen Mond (159 passing yards) and running back John Lovett (34 rushing yards, 1 TD) are key, but they’ll need to improve to compete.

Survey Note: Comprehensive Game Preview for San Antonio Brahmas at St. Louis BattleHawks, April 6, 2025

The San Antonio Brahmas (0-1) are set to visit the St. Louis BattleHawks (1-0) on April 6, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT) at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, MO, as part of Week 2 of the 2025 United Football League (UFL) season. This game, broadcast on FS1, marks the first meeting between the two teams this season, with their second encounter scheduled for May 23 in San Antonio. Given the BattleHawks’ strong opening performance and home-field advantage, they are favored, but the Brahmas have the potential to make adjustments and compete effectively.

Background and Context

The UFL, formed from the merger of the XFL and USFL, features eight teams divided into the USFL Conference (Birmingham Stallions, Houston Roughnecks, Memphis Showboats, Michigan Panthers) and the XFL Conference (Arlington Renegades, DC Defenders, San Antonio Brahmas, St. Louis BattleHawks). Each team plays a 10-game regular season with no bye weeks, facing conference rivals twice and other conference teams once, culminating in a championship on June 14, 2025, aired on ABC and ESPN+.

Team Standings and Recent Performance

• St. Louis BattleHawks (1-0): The BattleHawks kicked off their 2025 campaign with a commanding 31-6 win over the Houston Roughnecks on March 28, 2025, at TDECU Stadium in Houston, TX. This victory tied their largest margin of victory in franchise history, matching a 25-point win over Orlando in Week 10 of 2023. They recorded 460 total yards, the second most in UFL history, and set a new league record with 273 rushing yards, surpassing Birmingham’s 213 from Week 5 of 2024. This performance highlights their dominant rushing attack, which will be a key factor in this game.
• San Antonio Brahmas (0-1): The Brahmas started the season with a 9-30 loss to the Arlington Renegades on March 29, 2025, at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, TX. Their offense struggled, managing only 9 points, with quarterback Kellen Mond passing for 159 yards and running back John Lovett rushing for 34 yards and one touchdown. This loss underscores the need for offensive improvements as they face a BattleHawks team coming off a strong showing.

Key Players and Matchups

St. Louis BattleHawks

The BattleHawks’ success in their opener was driven by their rushing attack, with key contributors including:

• Jacob Saylors: Rushed for 145 yards and scored 1 touchdown, a significant part of their record-setting 273 rushing yards.
• J. Howard: Added 115 rushing yards and 1 touchdown on 13 carries, showcasing depth in their backfield.
• Manny Wilkins (QB): Contributed 43 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, adding a dual-threat dimension to their offense.

Their defense also played a crucial role, holding the Roughnecks to just 6 points, which could pose a challenge for the Brahmas’ struggling offense.

San Antonio Brahmas

The Brahmas will look to rebound, with key players including:

• Kellen Mond (QB): Completed 17 of 31 passes for 159 yards in their opener, needing to find his rhythm against a BattleHawks secondary that has shown strength.
• John Lovett (RB): Rushed for 34 yards and scored 1 touchdown, but will need more production to counter the BattleHawks’ run defense.
• Deveon Smith and Kalen Ballage: Additional running backs who could see increased roles to balance the offense.

The Brahmas’ challenge lies in improving their passing game and finding ways to penetrate the BattleHawks’ defense, which was effective in their first game.

Game Analysis and Predictions

This matchup pits the BattleHawks’ dominant rushing attack against the Brahmas’ need to revitalize their offense. The BattleHawks’ home-field advantage at The Dome at America’s Center, combined with their recent performance, makes them the favorites. Their ability to control the clock with their rushing game could limit the Brahmas’ opportunities to mount a comeback.

Key matchups to watch include:

• BattleHawks’ Rushing Attack vs. Brahmas’ Run Defense: The BattleHawks’ record-setting rushing yards will test the Brahmas’ ability to stop the run, especially after their defensive struggles in the opener.
• Brahmas’ Passing Game vs. BattleHawks’ Secondary: Kellen Mond will need to connect with receivers to keep the BattleHawks’ defense honest, but the BattleHawks’ secondary, which held the Roughnecks to low scoring, could be a tough challenge.
• Turnovers and Special Teams: Both teams will need to minimize turnovers, with the Brahmas particularly needing to protect the ball after their offensive struggles.

Given the BattleHawks’ momentum and home advantage, research suggests they are likely to win, but the Brahmas could make it competitive if they adjust their strategy, particularly in the passing game.

Injury Reports and Lineup Changes

There are no specific reports of injuries for either team as of April 6, 2025, at 06:20 AM PDT. Both teams appear to be relatively healthy, with no significant changes in their lineups reported, allowing for their key players to potentially perform at full capacity.

Historical Context and Head-to-Head

This is the first meeting between the two teams in the 2025 season, with their second game scheduled for May 23, 2025, in San Antonio, designated as a home game for the Brahmas but played at The Dome at America’s Center due to scheduling conflicts at the Alamodome. Historical data from previous seasons shows competitive matchups, but the 2025 season’s early performances suggest the BattleHawks have the edge coming into this game.

Broadcast and Viewing Information

Fans can watch the game on FS1, with kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at this website, and additional coverage can be found on FOX Sports.

Alright I'm gonna "try" to convince myself I'm a BattleHawks fan. Got the Rams connection via St. Louis. That city supported our Rams and won a Super Bowl there.

That's the former Ed Jones dome, right?

Former Ram Jacob Harris a couple of catches for the Brahmas.

He had a couple bad breaks(like) sort of speak. Actually though he came in with the right attitude & played special teams really well.
- I give him credit & imo out played Hopkins. I never understood that dude ? He actually made some big plays I believe the Superbowl year ? A couple of those games could have sent Tge Rams home ??
Might have only been 1 game, but amazing how Football is such a TEAM Game as Sean Mcvay always states.
-I remember yelling at Hopkins he was going to get CUT!! He heard it & felt it. He made the team & give him credit for stepping up a little.
His focus in practice wasn’t there, but he did try to take a leadership role his final season for a minute.Never understood what was up there ??? Puka was a surprise. I believe they were teammates ?? Ben Sko got traded,so maybe I’m wrong ??

I dunno, love the 'hawks of course, but those brahma logos... hard to tell what they even are, 1/2 lightning bolt, 1/2 combover?
'hawks are indeed the team to beat, but that Bryce Perkins... love those panther uni's, reminds me a lot of the awesome FL ST uni's.
