• The standout player in seven-on-seven work was McCutcheon, the receiver out of Montana State. McCutcheon, who was one of the Rams’ undrafted free agents this spring, caught three impressive passes: one under contest in the short-middle of the field, a contested sideline grab and a touchdown catch over traffic in the back corner of the end zone. McCutcheon seems to have good size (he’s 6-3 and 202 pounds) and solid body control.

• Another UDFA I’m keeping an eye on: Benton Whitley, the 6-4, 260-pound outside linebacker out of Holy Cross. Whitley moved up a couple of spots in the pass-rush drilling line and in agility, tracking and bend drills moved very well.

I had a feeling McCutcheon was gonna standout. I don't even know why, I've never seen any tape of him, just had a feeling.

Whitley will be interesting to see how he does.Looks like a player out there.Meaning that he stands out.

Last OTA’s everyone was all Harris this & Harris that.Playing in pads make such a diy.In Harris’s case he lacks experience & doesn’t look all that great in pads.You can see his speed,but has a weird stride.

McCutcheon looks like a slower version of Harris.Practice squad guy if anything. Can he play special teams.

He won’t beat out JJ Koski who is light years ahead of him right now.Then again Koski's time is running out.

It's OTAs. This is a scheme version of underwear workouts. But not gonna lie... A 6'4" 260 LB showing some juice is intriguing. :laugh1:

NFL draft profile scouting report for Holy Cross defensive end, Benton Whitley

Pros:​

Defensive end who displays great bend and agility which allows him to flatten back to the quarterback while accelerating. Whitley beats slow-footed blockers with horizontal pads by crossing their face with his lateral quickness. His hand placement on pass rush moves is very good, being consistently on time and on target. Whitley uses a chop move to beat the punch of blockers with vertical pads. He lands his long arm while maintaining favorable leverage. Whitley recognizes oversets and counters inside. Showing mental alertness, he gets his hands into throwing lanes in the quick game.

Cons:​

Only possessing average snap timing, first step explosiveness and burst, Whitley is unable to consistently threaten tackles with his athleticism. While he is able to create slight knockback converting speed to power, he does frequently lose his balance on impact. Whitley lacks violence in his hands when using power moves or trying to shed. He does not set the edge reliably and gets driven off the ball by double teams. As a tackler, he falls off of bigger ball carriers, lacking the physicality to finish. Whitley shows poor eyes when left unblocked, not maintaining gap integrity.

Summary:​

Bendy defensive end with average size and straight-line athleticism. Whitley can win as a pass rusher by using his precise hands or very good lateral quickness. He lacks physicality and violence, making him a liability in the run game. Whitley projects as a developmental pass rusher who has desirable traits with his agility and should be a capable special teamer. If he can add significant strength in the NFL, he can become a rotational player.

Me...When the pads go on I'm concerned with his ability to tackle and standup to the contact. To this point, he's looked really good in Shorty Pants!

Everything from concussions to protecting QBs hand on throws.

Last year they started wearing them after Stafford banged his hand on someone's helmet. Looks like McVay realized there's no downside to wearing them and only the potential upside to reduce injuries.
