If if were me in charge, here's the moves I would start planning on making.

1. Trade Gurley before the draft (if possible) for a late round #1 pick?
2. If Cooks wants to keep playing, try trading him for whatever we can get for him. (Need to save money with him, he's not a difference maker at the money he's getting.) Even if we only get a 3rd for him, do it.
3. Let Brockers go or redo his deal for much lower if he wants.

With whatever players we trade for, or whatever draft picks we get from trading Gurley and Cooks, spend them ALL on some decent O-line.

We must fix the O-line this off season.
If we don't get at least a top 15 o-line, it doesn't matter what skill players we have.

i can’t argue but no way in hell we get close a 1st for Gurley for his contract alone, not to mention his health issues.

My question I’m debating is another year with Whitworth? He’s a decent LT still. Maybe not the best but he holds his own plus he’ll be instrumental for any rookie line men.

edit:

holy shit never mind! Look at the dead cap for next year! That’s nuts!

The only realostic hope this team has to buy itself some time maybe get some cheap hole plugging vets draft well again with late round picks but is to begin restructuring contracts. I realize it's a pact with the devil but I have to believe they have a plan with the new stadium coming. Some smart cuts and some smart restructuring can work. Restructuring old players can be a cap killer I think restructuring young players like goff Donald and cooks depending on his health is the only route.

The cutting of some vets and some Key restructuring is the only way to address holes resign players and keep this window open at a pivotal time.

1. Trade Gurley? The guy who just averaged 7 yards a carry behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL against a tough defense? No thanks. Besides, Gurley's 2020 cap hit is 17.2 mil while his dead cap would be 25.6 mil.

2. See: Todd Gurley

3. Brockers is an unrestricted FA after this season.

If the team (FO/coaches) are giving up on the season I would start trading some of Brockers snap count to other younger players. Same can be said for Fowler (assuming he won’t come back).
Havenstein and Blythe as well.
But, the team is 5-4.
A loss or two by the Eagles, Panthers and Viking could help the wildcard prospects so I don’t expect the Rams to do this.
I do want to see Corbett, Edwards and the other young G (forgot his name) get game reps.
Any word on Allen and Havenstein?

How the hell can a team built for the future just last year , completely do a 180 in less than 9 months? It's scary how some of these big contracts are being handed out , along with a boat load of draft picks . Goff , Gurley , Hav , and Higbee contracts are going to be hard to swallow unless they start producing . If Ramsey walks or even signs a massive contract , how will they find enough quality players to fill a roster ? Next year's first round pick now looks like a top 15 . Very concerning

We'd likely have to trade draft picks to open up cap space from Gurley and Cooks.

Hoping this FO plans on investing heavily in the O-line this offseason. I don't trust Blythe and Havenstein (next to a bad guard), I'll give Edwards the benefit of the doubt.

Our defense has been playing really well since the addition of Ramsey.

We have 2 Future Hall of Famers
99 is under contract
We get JJ back
We will sign Ramsey
We will resign Littleton
Countess has played well
Rapp is looking solid
Wade will bring in replacements for Brockers

The issue with this team is all about the offensive line. And that’s all.

Robert Woods is gold. Kupp is the man, Cooks when healthy makes that trio one of the best in the NFL, then we have Reynolds and all he does is catch passes. Everett is starting to click. Goff is second to Kurt Warner as best QB’s to ever play for the Rams - he’s 25, under-contract, has NFC Championship. So he’s not the issue ever. Gurley can still run. I know some want to blame him, but he’s not the issue either. Plus we have nice RB depth with Brown and Henderson.

The FO rolled the dice this year, trusting that Kromer could seamlessly make the transition to their young offensive selections, and that they’d not only have to replace seasoned vets like Saffold and Sullivan but roll with Edwards and Evans as their backups. Well injuries and suck play has sent those dreams into a dumpster fire. I mean I have no idea what happened to Havenstein. Maybe he needs to grown his hair out again, I don’t know.

For the 2020 season the offensive line gets back healthy and with another season under their belt; this FO clearly knows what we know and will add more offensive line talent with some high picks, and then sign a big named Free Agent — I don’t care if it’s a Center, Left or Right Tackle or Right or Left Guard — we will bring in a solid Free Agent veteran signing. Anyone they bring in, I think will be like 25 or 26. I speculate that cause I think the trade for Corbett shows Snead and Co are committed to bringing in a quantity of young and affordable players and hoping to strike gold with Kromer molding two or three of them into future all pros. I think it’s part of their financial plan - to spend on certain positions and go cheap youth on others

C'mon dude...Hill was right there...it was ball placement...plus the size mismatch. Now...he clearly got beat earlier...but the game is early.
YOU HAVE TO CHALLENGE THAT....WHAT'S WRONG WITH McVAY???

.

Fuck me, Gurley ran well today.

.
If only he could catch the ball. He had three drops. One may have been tipped.

More importantly, I'm unsure why we didn't run the ball on the 2nd to last drive in the 4th. Thought we were running the ball well and tiring the Pitt defense.

we probably stopped running because we couldn't use Gurley, You know, because of that snap count. So when we have 4 games left are we going to give Gurley 30 carries a game? does it matter that by that time we will be eliminated from making the playoffs. I don't believe any of this saving Gurley crap anymore. My theory is, as soon as we start to use Gurley as a workhorse his knee begins to swell up and we shut him down. I can't see any other reason why we stop using him.

Great topic, Brian! I would put Henderson in full time. This team needs a spark, and it won't come from the players we have starting. The O-line is a mess, but there is nothing we can do right now. Gurley, for whatever reason, cannot be counted on. I'm not giving up on the season, but what we do have to lose? The team is playing like crap and has been for a while... to think that they will turn it around and run off 7 in a row is ludicrous. Let's see if Henderson can give us a spark carrying the rock 25-30 times!
