The Life And Career Of Jim Everett (Story)

In 1986, the Los Angeles Rams made a deal with the Houston Oilers to sign rookie quarterback Jim Everett.

Everett was a record-breaking signal caller for the Purdue Boilermakers and was a first-round draft pick.

By his third year in the NFL, Everett started every game for the Rams and led the team to the brink of a Super Bowl appearance in 1989.

During his time in Los Angeles, Everett played alongside some of the most talented players in franchise history.

This is the story of Jim Everett.

His career was a big disappointment in the way it ended but I definitely appreciate him. If he'd had better around him there at the end who knows how it would have went. Just had the misfortune of poor timing with the Rams being driven into the ground by Georgia.

I will never forget his first appearance, throwing 2 or 3 td's and almost pulling off the win. The rise of Blade

Sucks that his career and some really great Rams teams were overshadowed by the Montana era.

I told this story before... but I was such a big fan of his that I named my dog after him. Blade was a fat ass pug (the irony made me laugh). I framed Everett's GQ cover and had it hanging over Blade's bed.

I think I remember that game. Was it on MNF?

I do remember the joy of finally having a QB who could rip it downfield.

I'm remembering a Monday Night game too... definitely a night game I think.

I recorded that game on VHS... I may even still have the tape. No VCR anymore though. LOL

I am guessing Dallas as the opponent from my old ass brain cells.

Same here, I’m pretty sure I’ve got that MNF game too on VHS somewhere. I’m going to have to try to dig it up now.

I liked Everett. But to even raise the HOF question in the article is silly. He was a good NFL QB, but certainly not HOF material.

As I think back now...

The 1st game I was able to watch live with Everett WAS a MNF game. I was back on The Mainland then and there was no such thing as Sunday Ticket in those dark ancient times. I was no longer in an "LA Market" so I couldn't see the Rams most every week live on TV anymore. Nationally televised games were my only hope.

That also explains my extreme desire to record that game on a VHS tape. High tech, Low drag. LOL

I believe it was the Patriots on a Sunday afternoon
@Mojo Ram
I remember it as a Sunday late game or 1pm pst and I think it was NE. He didn't start and our O was anemic (maybe Dils) Everett almost brought us back for the win.
We had a crazy good D that enabled us to stay in games.

I for sure didn’t watch that game(highlights only). I’m almost positive I had to wait for MNF to watch him play. I remember Al Michaels or Frank Gifford(?) being wowed by his arm on those deep out throws.

If you scan up to post #9 ... I included an article about that game.

Allow me to chime in here!

It was absolutely Sunday afternoon vs. New England, at Anaheim Stadium.

I was at the game! One of my best game memories as a Rams fan.

Everett did not start the game. During the end of the first quarter the stadium went nuts, and started chanting "Everett", over and over again. Loudest chant I ever heard! This went on for a few offensive series.

Coach Robinson felt the extreme pressure and succumbed to it. Suddenly Everett ran out on the field to join the offense and everyone went absolutely nuts.

Everett killed it that day. Finally, we had a quarterback!

New England ruined the day, however. They did a hail-mary with seconds left in the game, took the lead and won. So frustrating.

One of my best memories as a season ticket holder in Anaheim. The huge "Georgia Is A baby door" banner that was dropped minutes before the Rams final game at Anaheim was a pretty good memory too, but Everett's first game was special!

Edit: Why can't we say baby door on here? Can we say pussy?
