Texans' Jadeveon Clowney undergoes hernia surgery
By Marc Sessler/Around the League Writer
The first overall pick in last month's draft has gone under the knife.
Texans coach Bill O'Brien announced at a news conference Friday that rookie pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney recently underwent sports hernia surgery.
O'Brien revealed that Clowney had been dealing with a nagging groin injury. The rookie recently traveled to Philadelphia, where doctors pointed to surgery as the best option for a complete recovery.
The former South Carolina defensive terror will miss next week's mandatory minicamp, but O'Brien expects Clowney to return for the start of training camp in late July.
Hernia operations can be tricky, but there's little reason to question the coach's timeline. Barring a setback, Houston's sack-master-in-waiting will be ready to rumble by the time the pads go on.
