Tanner McKee QB is expected to drop into the top of the second round. Remember Drew Brees did as well so it's not like only top first round QBs are worth taking. If the Rams can't hold on to Mayfield, I think the Rams could draft a QB at 36.

Tanner McKee looks to be a scheme fit for McVay's offense. He's got elite height at 6'6" and an NFL quality arm with good overall accuracy. He's a true pocket passer who has shown an ability to read defenses. His flaws are mostly coachable issues that have to do with his progression reads. A year behind Stafford would really benefit him. I've watched him play and IMO he can be a quality QB given a decent team, coach, and system. He's got good movement skills though his throws on the run need to be cleaned up as technique issues.

IMO McKee gets a bad rap because of the quality of the team around him. He played behind probably the worst OL in the Pac12. But no different than Stafford and Goff if given a decent amount of time he's got the arm talent to beat defenses. Unlike a running QB Tanner being a pocket passer understands how to play progression read schemes.

I look at him as a one year developmental QB who has Goff like potential. The problem IMO is that McVay obviously doesn't like young QBs, but if Tanner is on the board at 36 and if Mayfield isn't on board I think the Rams could grab McKee.

Welp, his experience functioning behind a bad OL makes him a good fit for us.

I like McKee a lot. He reminds me of Drew Bledsoe a little.

He’ll end up a first round pick. He’s got the most accurate arm in football. He’s smart too. There are too many teams that need a QB that have first round picks too. The Saints come to mind.

Seems like a kid who will get over-drafted based on physical attributes while his pedestrian production/stats will seemingly be overlooked
I know Stanford had some lean years but only 28 TD passes in 22 career starts?

You never know with the draft, good players drop.

Grabbing a QB that projects well would be smart. Low yearly cost. Provide a capable backup behind Stafford. Can take over when Stafford retires in one, two, three or four years. IMO This year and next year MAX, it's why letting Stafford have one more year is fine and if Mayfield knows he starts in 2024 he would be foolish to go elsewhere. This team can be a contender every year.

Dieterbrock, Stanford had the worst OL in the Pac12. He didn't have much of a team on both sides of the ball. Personally, I look at how he plays, i.e. can he read defenses, does he go through his progressions, accuracy, arm strength, and mechanics. He checks the boxes on most of them. He may not be a rookie starter, but he falls under that second year starter category which is why many evaluations have him going early in the second round.

"Let" Stafford have another year? Stafford's 31 mill 2024 salary will be fully guaranteed in a couple weeks, he's not going anywhere. There's literally no cap space available which would afford paying a Mayfield to ride pine for 2-3 seasons
A rookie contract? Can afford that though

Davis Mills didnt play behind any stellar o-line either, and had superior production.
Regardless, the tape matters and I dont deny that but at some point lack of production is an issue. QB's are predominantly over-drafted anyways, he wouldnt be the last

Not on board with the idea of drafting him with our top pick. I personally wouldn't touch him until the 3rd or later. He didn't show me he was a can't miss guy. I'd much rather have Hooker then McKee. That said, I don't think we bring a rookie in as our backup. I think we bring in some kind of vet, as the odds of them having to play this year are unfortunately pretty high. We need a guy that can step in and play NFL ball immediately.

Haener is my huckleberry this year. There's some other guys too where I like some of their skills, like Tune for example.. But Haener is a competitor. That's the most important element in a QB in today's game IMO. Martz had that right.

Ask Green Bay how that has worked out for them. The niners trading up for 3 1st rd picks is funny as chit.Only to have Mr. Irrelevant come in for him.

I say put down the pipe to anyone who thinks this is a good idea going into 2023!!

First off I thought draft post were not open on this part of posting.I can see a draft post here? Not trying to make any rules. Just think drafting a QB(backup) with so many needs would put The Rams from winning now.
—JOKE— to think Mcvay with AD99,Stafford,Kupp,(Ramsey),Wagner would think about the future without thinking about the present is pure CRAZY TALK!!

Sounds like if he lasts to the Rams pick, we could pick up a bounty by trading down with a team in dire need of a QB.
That's the ticket!!! We could flip the pick for a real bounty if there's two or three teams that want to move up for a QB.

Yeah - draft that QB from Nebraska. Perfect.
To not protect a HOF QB only to win a Superbowl in Arizona.
— I know the value of a QB,so I get this post.

As a draftnik I wanted the Vandy QB Jay Cutler. That would have been The Best thing for The Rams. Why they held SJ39 out & signed Bulger to a huge contract?

Then The Matt Ryan vs. Chris Long? Author Blank played The Rams on that pick. That whole M. Vick thing,I would have called them out there. What was the worst thing that would have happened? Having a Franchise QB?
I will always look back & question it. I liked Jalen Hurt, but thought he was going to slip a little further. 53 after Akers.
Wanted to trade up for Johnathan Taylor though as well.
—Look what Philly got for Carson Wentz ? The Rams gave up how much for Stafford? You (we) have to eat that!

I will always go back to winning now & say The Jared Goff trade on BOTH ENDS was Questionable IMO!!
Nick Foles & Case Keenum played in the 2017 championship games. Rams lost to the Matt Ryan Falcons. Nick Foles wins a Superbowl in Philly. Jalen Hurts couldn’t even do that as an example?
Building a team & foundation is the best step.
When it come to drafting a QB,or finding a QB. When the value is there you need to take that chance.
The Rams need a EDGE/DE pass rusher!! Kahila Mack ? Then who knows. I can’t even think about the draft right now circling that player.

Yeah, can't see why they would try and trade up to our pick rather then one in the top 5 of the round. I'm sure we can trade down if we wanted, just don't see a QB bounty as the offer.

Other QB's I'd much rather have especially at this spot. If he's there in the late 3rd or early 4th possibly. Higher than that no thanks too many other needs and better options.
