in next months Supplemental draft there might be 2 top corners available. Sam Beal is a 1st round talent who is petitioning to get into the draft and Adonis Alexander has been kicked off the team for academic reasons from Virginia Tech and has the size and ball skills to have a lot of value. The Rams are going to have some compensary picks next year. Would it be worth tossing a 3rd or maybe even a 2nd for either of these players in a position not exactly our strongest need?

Maybe a 3rd if they pass the 'We Not Me' test. I believe our last compensatory pick was a 4th rounder and didn't work out so well.

Hope not. There's already enough questionable character added to our secondary of late. Also at this point I would try to keep our picks for next year's draft. Having a draft class devoid of high end talent for multiple years is the type of thing that can slowly erode a team's window.

I am not saying go after either guy, but if you use a 3rd and get a 1st round talent, doesn't that help with exactly what you are talking about?

I have felt that bargains can usually be found in the supplemental draft.

Most teams have an idea who they want on their roster at this point.

It seems as though supplemental players always go a round or two after where some scouts predict.

You also have extra time to invest in studying these players at this point.

It's worth a shot.

Only five supplemental picks made in the last ten years, thirteen in the last twenty years. A lot of JAGs on the list.

It depends on the reasons that they are leaving school. Adonis would not be a fit with the intelligent players push in this last draft. Beal? Who knows.

Sorry for a little OT.

I remember we signed a UDFA corner last year. I totally forgot his name, but I think he was our biggest UDFA signing. Anyone remember?

Of course that helps. Just saying that I personally don't believe any team's front office is good enough to overcome consistently drafting late. The draft is too much of a roll of the dice and gets worse the later you go. You can get away with it a bit, granted, if you have a strong talent evaluation group (which I think we do) and make shrewd trades and FA signings, but when you bring in accomplished vets you gotta pay them too, since the type of players teams pursue through those avenues are usually available due to contract issues and short windows of control.

Rams' challenge right now is signing the talent they brought in (vet-wise). If they do that all is well. Moving forward I personally would just like to see them keep some round 1 and 2 picks though.

Why take a CB this year? It would be a waste of a season... so you would essentially only get 3 years out of him... IF he works out.

They are loaded at CB with Shields as the 4th and Hill as the 5th CB... and Hill played well down the stretch last year.

Wait until next year when you have more time to evaluate players then use that pick on a CB, if needed, and get 4 years out of him.

1987 was an interesting year for the supplemental draft. Seattle spent a first round pick on LB Brian Bosworth (massive bust), Tampa spent a third round pick on DT Dan Sileo (JAG) and Philadelphia spent a fourth round pick on WR Cris Carter (HOF).

I forgot Carter was a supplemental draft.
And for all the brilliance bestowed on the Cowboys for their draft prowess during the 80's, they essentially drafted Steve Walsh with the #1 overall pick in the draft after taking Troy Aikman overall #1 the year before.
Boys took Walsh in the supplemental draft

If they feel the player out values the draft position it costs, you take him. Cant just assume they'd be in position to draft a player of same value ate same cost.
I'm not saying they should take him, just that they shouldn't take him because they should wait

You can never have enough cornerbacks.

If they feel like spending a fourth on a guy who could end up a starter or a solid backup that sounds like a regular draft scenario.

53 would be too many cornerbacks. 20 cornerbacks might even be a lot.
