So, is Matthieu now off Rams radar? Signing with Ain'ts?

Rams really loaded up in their secondary. Maybe even a tad too much?

I’m now doubtful that they want Matthieu all that much anymore. Would be overkill, kinda?

Jourdan has been hinting rather strongly that Rams intendEd to make significant FA signings after the draft. Does she still feel that Rams are leaning that way? But is it an Edge? Or some other position?

And I’m curious about their plans for a punter, too. I had expected them to draft one from this class but other players kept falling into their lap it seems. As it stands I consider P as a team need. Dixon does not inspire confidence in me.

Are Rams still intending to restructure AD and Kupp? I think so and I would love to be a fly on the wall as they discuss their finishing FA strategy.

Signing OBJ seems highly likely and Edge is an area that I need reassurance upon through on the field evidence. Edge may be where they invest FA dollars in, don’t you think? Maybe someone modestly expensive but would provide vet insurance for a SB run. ANOTHER SB run, that is. Lol.

I’ve gotta say that I really like this current roster and these coaches.

Honestly would go with our young players over Mathieu.

Agreed! After the Rams Draft this weekend I also have my doubts on the Rams signing Matthieu. I also agree and hope that signing OBJ and an Edge seem highly possible/probable!

I think nothing has changed. The key philosophy of the Rams is having players who excel in the NFL to start if they can afford them. Rookies start on up and coming teams not deep playoff run teams. I still believe they 2ant Mathieu's

Yes I think it does mean that. I think we add OBJ back into the fold and I'd wager we add a deadline edge like last year if the guys opposite Flo don't seem like they're making a difference.

I agree and would not be surprised if they signed a Melvin Ingram now, but you could be right and keep an eye on Jacksonville's Josh Allen as I'm a firm believe that Jacksonville is an excellent placeholder for future Rams. Makes their owner feel more part the team he really wanted.

Mattheiu?
Edge (Clowney)?
OBJ?
Punter? (Why?)

If I could only choose 1 of the 4, it would be OBJ.

They have a plan, for sure. Don't think any of us should pretend to know.

I don't think so. Mathieu can play S, CB, and STAR. We drafted some young DBs but I think it more so means D Long or Rapp are on the bubble moreso.

I think they have CB, OL, RB, S sufficiently covered. Need a 4th proven WR so I sure hope they sign OBJ. I think Mathieu would not be best use of cap $$$ so I’m thinking either a vet Edge FA (Ingram, Highes, roster cut) or a trade that blows our minds.

I just don't see many if any appealing vet EDGEs in FA anymore.

I can see Clowney or Flowers signed now that they have flooded the secondary room. Both just under 30 and have been proven to be effective rushing the QB. At this point, thats one of our only real needs. Houston/Hughes are a bit too long in the tooth for me to think they can be relied upon to play a 20-21 game season and be effective when it counts. An outside shot that we sign Van Noy to use on edge.

Don't for get trades as well.

I actually think Tyrann makes more sense now he is still only 29 and if you notice the Rams kind of have mentor players to teach the young guys at each level on defense you can't put a value on that alone leaving out the fact he is still a very very good player. So he should still be on the rams list. Then all the rooks can absorb from him and Jalen. Having Hill Tyrann and Jalen then letting the rooks and Rochelle and Long who will be a free agent is invaluable. Look at the effect big Whit had. Same for Wagner and AD.

I stoked to see how this all unfolds I believe there is more left too do.

Also Rapp is not worthless if you sign Tyrann Rapp probably gets traded can he net a 4th or a 5th I believe so if not maybe a player we covet and another team wants to dump for Rapp and maybe we need to add a pick depending on the player and contract.

Yes a million times over I have banged the Clowney drum and hunter which seems very unlikely now forever. A million times no to Flowers heat need a fresh start and would benefit but I think AD wants a proven dude next to him doesn't have to be Von but Clowney is 2 steps up from Flowers and Hunter just special.

Again signing Tyrann opens the door for a trade as well as just sign a Clowney. Rapp does become expendable.
Tyrann
Obj
Edge (no has beens please lol)

And my off season is a great one. With our chip and the commitment to defending it would amp me up to the max.

Prior to the draft they weren't sure whether they were going to luck out with an edge falling to them. Didn't happen. So they're looking at getting through the playoffs now with the pieces they have which are not ideal.

How do they improve their chances of getting through all these top contenders? By improving coverage. Which they have to a large extent. Durant was a really big addition, he's better than all the options on the roster just by virtue of his cover skills and the fact he can get his head around and play the ball. Hill returning boosts their packages and is insurance against none of the younguns stepping up. Corner as a position looks above average to me now vs the rest of the league, and if Durant really owns that slot we could end up being among the better secondaries in coverage.

But what about the safety position. Lake looks the part, he's got the DNA and all that too. Is it realistic though to expect him to step in and own a role back there? He looks like a project to me because he's not particularly instinctive in space, or more accurately when I watch him I don't say wow and feel like he stands out in that way compared to the others from this class. But that DC at UCLA was shit. And the DC really affects safeties IMO. The way they teach and call safety is a position that is very much impacted and when you have a shit DC it's gonna make it hard to see what a guy can do.

For me though there is still a need to have insurance back there at safety. In an ideal world it's the smart bet. Enter Mathieu who is not just a slot, he's a guy with a ton of experience playing in big games in all different looks/calls/roles. He'd immediately ensure one of those safety posts are locked down. He'd block Scott though, which could be a problem if they think Scott is poised to show what he can do. But re: Scott I'll just say there's a difference in making plays here and there and being able to not be a weakness for the defense in coverage snap to snap to snap. Also if Scott is good, if he's ready to make a move, you can bet he'll win one of the two spots regardless.

In the end this isn't a business where you make personnel decisions while worrying about impact to the players. That matters but it's secondary to what is best for the defensive unit. So get Mathieu locked up. That's the best option IMO.

According to Schefter, Saints are now heavily pursuing Mathieu since they didn't draft one this weekend. My guess is he lands there. He played at LSU so he's likely comfortable there. Not happy about it, but, I'd rather get an edge at this point with our $

Not happy if we lose Mathieu. I have zero confidence in anyone but Ramsey and Hill 50% of the time. Especially considering there isn't much for EDGE available.
