There’s no doubt about who the Los Angeles Rams’ top three pass rushers are this season: Dante Fowler Jr., Clay Matthews and Samson Ebukam. They’re going to get the most playing time of any outside linebackers, but injuries do occur.
It’s important to have a deep pass-rush rotation, especially with Matthews having the ability to play inside linebacker. The Rams have been waiting for role players to step up since last season, and on Saturday night, two may have emerged as formidable backups.

Natrez Patrick and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo were two young players who stood out in somewhat limited playing time against the Cowboys. Patrick was seemingly around the ball on every snap he played, while Dallas’ offensive linemen had trouble slowing Okoronkwo down without holding. Together, they drew three holding penalties and hit the quarterback once each; Patrick had a half-sack, too.
After the game, Sean McVay was asked what he saw from both players and it was all positive from the head coach.

“Natrez has done a nice job. Really, we just transitioned him to outside linebacker a couple weeks ago almost by necessity as a result of Justin Lawler’s injury and (Trevon Young) being banged up. He’s really done a good job,” McVay said. “I think (outside linebackers coach) Chris Shula’s been outstanding, in terms of helping him develop and progress quickly. Then, getting Obo out there, it’s been great to see him. You see some of the flashes of why we liked him so much, why he was such a productive player at Oklahoma. He drew a couple holdings tonight and made his presence felt. Like we said, we’ll look back at the film, but you definitely felt those guys and that was a positive for sure.”
This is a positive development for the Rams, who don’t have much proven talent behind their starters at outside linebacker. Okoronkwo’s sample size has been as limited as any since being drafted in the fifth round last year, but he’s finally healthy and his ability was evident on Saturday night.
Patrick is only an undrafted rookie, and one who’s switched between inside and outside linebacker. It seems his more natural fit is at edge rusher and he’s certainly taking advantage of the opportunity with a couple players injured at the moment.
Patrick and Okoronkwo are trending in the right direction after two preseason games and will make things interesting at outside linebacker in the coming weeks.

Natrez has already made the team. OLB and ILB depth in one roster spot he is a no-brainer.

Obo just made it too. He will be on the roster or IR. Zero chance the Rams put a talent like him on the waiver wire.

ILB is wide open. Not sure what's up with Kiser and injury. Hager can't afford to miss run fits, otherwise what is his value. Guys below them on that chart are smelling blood IMO.

Yeah, Sean doing the coach cam was the highlight of the penalty ridden slop fest for me. Granted, most of the offenders won't be on the roster soon but man, what a mess. Saw some really good edge rushing and secondary plays. Looks like we have some decent depth and some tough decisions to make.

I was watching OBO exclusively and told my better half to keep an eye on 45.

That guy really showed up! It's been a long wait and I was worried the Rams would lose patience with him being injured. Remember, he didn't dress for TC after the second day in Irvine.

It may be early but I think the Rams have hit the proverbial home run with this guy.

I think Landis Duram has played as well or better than both of them in the first 2 preseason games.

I like what I saw from Ketner Kupp last night. Seemed to have a nose for getting to the ball. He should be a practice squad player for sure!

P.S. Why the heck would you name your kid "Ketner"?

Dakota Allen really showed up. I loved his physicality. He laid quite a few big, yet legal, hits, and he flew all over the field.

He worries me. Kind of like Toby Wright. How long can a guy play like that? Using your body like a missile is a good way to get injured.

LB'ers Og Okoronkwo & Natrez Patrick were able to do what OLB Trevon Young was not able to do last week....apply pressure & make plays.

Young had the benefit of having a full season under his belt last year. OO & NP are basically rookies. I would think that Trevon Young's stock is trending downward.

With the good performances of weak side ILB'ers 2018 draft pick Travin Howard & 2019 draft pick Dakota Allen & the so so performances of Kiser/ Hager cause Wade/Barry to move Littleton back to MLB'er? Then favorably consider Patrick/ Reeder more snaps @ MLB'er?

Wade continues to use his 2-4-5 defense & getting some success with it. He likes using those OLB'er with two DL'ers, but he did let up on it some in trying to get DL'ers Copeland - Roberts- Jones increased snaps. NT Jones & DT Copeland have run stopping skills but Roberts is a mess should be packing his totebags. What's wrong with DT John Franklin-Myers:sick:

Mentioning Bryant Jones here because I see something in him....like him better than SJ-D! I want to see more of this NT.

Then we enjoy him while we have him. He's talented and instinctive. I'd go so far as to put him in the other starting inside linebacker spot if Kiser's pectoral injury is serious enough.

Carraway, Durham and Obo. 3 guys that showed potential also but who knows which one gets cut.

Obo shows the most upside to me though, with his assortment of moves.

Was thinking Patrick was olb primarily or am I wrong? If he is being used as ilb I would definitely try him out a lot over the next couple weeks with Kisers injury. I like Dakota but he’s built more for Littleton’s role. And with Mathews, Fowler, and Ebukam there’s only so much playing time on the edge for Obo and Patrick. Would be a good way to get all these stud looking young guys some playing time.

Well I hate to see a guy destroy himself and have a short career.
