Rush Limbaugh, the monumentally influential media icon who transformed talk radio and politics in his decades behind the microphone, helping shape the modern-day Republican Party, died Wednesday morning at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer, his family announced.

Limbaugh's wife, Kathryn, made the announcement on his radio show. "Losing a loved one is terribly difficult, even more so when that loved one is larger than life," she said. "Rush will forever be the greatest of all time."

The radio icon learned he had Stage IV lung cancer in January 2020 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Trump at the State of the Union address days later. First lady Melania Trump then presented America’s highest civilian honor to Limbaugh in an emotional moment on the heels of his devastating cancer diagnosis.

Our old buddy Rich (Thordaddy) grew up with Rush. He used to tell me stories about their childhood. We ended up talking about it... not because of politics... it was because his name came up at the time when the Rams were up for sale. I also had a certain connection to Rush.

I was hoping for Rush to buy the Rams because I am friends with his personal pilot. I thought I was going to have the ultimate hook-up for Ram tickets. We know the rest of the story now though.

I listened to his Christmas broadcast on Dec-23. It was a great program, and he spoke about the mental struggles of his diagnosis and the positives he was taking from it.

I can't honestly say I was a fan, but he had unmeasurable amount of talent. He had a presence that came out of the speakers and would shake you awake. I've lost several family members to lung cancer and I feel for his family and close friends. I'll be thinking about them in the coming days. RIP, Rush.

Well, I have had a recent epiphany-like thing lately... the dialog has to change. The extreme fringe elements have to be ignored and we have to humble ourselves and figure out how to respect our fellow countrymen even if we disagree passionately.

This stupid weather event has everyone out there right now helping push strangers cars out of ditches. Just Americans treating each other like neighbors, not worrying about which candidate's sticker is on the bumper before they start pushing...

Thats the kinda shit we need more of.

I must admit I am old enough to remember when Rush started. At that time really wasn't a fan saw him as a pompous ass more than anything. But over the years I came to admire what he was able to accomplish. I never bought into the name calling etc.. Always saw it as all part of the shtick. (its show business baby) And nothing he was saying was any worse than what the other side was saying. I was listening when he made his announcement of cancer diagnoses and knew he was done. Same thing as my father stage four lung cancer. Dad lasted about 3 months and what he went thru I would not wish on anyone. RIP Rush people either loved or hated you but they sure as hell couldn't ignore you.

The internet is a wonderful thing. We get news at our fingertips. Discuss sports with like minded fans. We connect with long lost friends and family. Pay our bills without leaving the home. But it also has this side to it. I'm sure there were plenty of vile people back in the day. But now its out there for all to see.

The interweb has really exposed much ugly in people that otherwise wouldn't have been seen or known.

Unity will never exist as long as people who say the most vile things while promoting division are not called out while living and in essence glorified upon their death. What's disheartening to me is the mindset that a person can do such, but then is supposed to be off limits from others doing the same thing he did for years prior his death.

How I miss those times of respect and consideration.

My Father deeply mourned the passing of JFK and RFK. One of the only times I saw his tears.

Not his style of thought but they were worthy of respect by nature.

Those are the times of pass.
