I read something recently about if Ramsey were to move to safety he would be the best in the league and potentially make a much bigger impact on the defense. Thoughts?

Ramsey is a force to be reconned with I believe for years to come. But he’s no longer a lock down corner. He’d be the best SS in the league. Image the Rams with Ramsey at SS, Scott at FS, Durant at CB2 and a stud shut down corner at CB1. It may not occur next year but put wheels in motion to pursue this for 2024.

I tend to think it is time to move Ramsey to Free Safety next year. Even though his coverage skills have slipped a bit he would make more plays as a safety at this point. This is why I want the Rams to take a Corner in the draft. I would be good with using our 2nd rounder but no lower than our 3rd. I would like to add a Corner in FA if we can afford one as I think that this move is inevitable and the Rams need to shore up the secondary to compete going forward.

I disagree with that. Not in this scheme. Ramsey is an elite CB. He'd also be an elite safety. Would he make a bigger impact? Not so sure about that. They'd have to be creative in how they use him, and it would likely end up with him being used in a role similar to the one he's in now, except with him playing more snaps as a deep safety instead of an outside CB. And I don't think he makes the same impact in that role.

Regarding the topic…I think Ramsey should stay at CB, but I’d like to see him return to the role of shutting down the opposition’s best WR, rather than roaming.

I know PPF isn’t a favorite with everyone but Ramsey is the #3 rated CB according to their metric. Sauce Gardner and Patrick Surtain only graded higher.

I personally think his decline isn’t there yet.

Well I don’t know what is best for Ramsey? Never knew how tight him & Derwin James were.
I could see them playing together at some point in there careers.
Sunday we will get a chance to see Colbe B. @ CB for the Hags. Then again both Rams rookies.IMO having a Taller CB with ball skills is priceless. The value was there for The Rams & thinking Bruss or a rookie was going to be a starter at guard was desperation & a lack of doing what was suppose to be already addressed before the 2022 draft.
Hard to move Jalen when he is still your best CB.

Agreed, I think people are way over blowing his play this year. He has had a couple bad plays (every CB gets burnt here and there) but I think most of the other ones were due to scheme and failures of another player. I like the idea of Ramsey playing safety later in his career because I love his awareness, toughness, and athleticism but he is still years away from that needing to be done.

This could be true but there are two possibilities: 1) This year is an anomaly; 2) Ramsey is in decline. The reason I tend to think decline is that he got torched by Jamar Chase in the Super Bowl. Then his play has trended down this year. He is doing even more grabbing, ad drawing flags, than in years past. Granted, Ramsey is the #3 rated CB this year, but that just attests to how incredible he was in the years before. I guess we will know in 2023, but I tend to go more in dang's direction. Plenty of CBs have become elite Pro Bowl safeties, and have extended their careers in the process. One great thing about Jalen is he likes to hit and can be a damn effective blitzer.

I think his play at CB has slipped because that rams have him playing the star position the majority of the time. I'm a firm believer some skills are perishable and playing press man to man is no different. I mean what result were expecting to see? I think if the Rams revert back to a more traditional style or defense or have someone else play that star role, Ramsey should get back to his former self. But we'll see, he very well could have lost a step, I just don't think it's that. Obviously this all my opinion.

Safety is almost never more important than corner and moving Ramsey to safety makes us a barren wasteland at corner.

We'd have the most expensive safety in the league and nobody at CB1. Doesn't seem like a good idea.

The way that Morris uses him, I thought that they had already moved him to safety.

I dunno.. Minka Fitzpatrick is the best player in the Steejers secondary by far. He would be worth $20M a yr to that team I would think.

Nah keep Ramsey at cb/star. Not only is he too young to move to S yet, but the Rams league low defensive pressures lays more stress on the DBs. Ramsey (or anyone) can only stay with a WR for so long before there's an opening. And some of the catches against him, you gotta admit, 1-handers while he's on them pretty tight, there was some BS involved. Pressure the QB and allow him to thrive.

Rams 2021 pass rush:

Sacks 50
Pressures 171
QB hits 95

Rams 2022 pass rush:

Sacks 35
Pressures 66 (league low by 20)
QB hits 75

Getting a legit edge will help the secondary and allow Ramsey to be more successful. He's only 27, has at least 2 more years before a move to safety.

As I “tried” to express it ain’t happening next year and may take several years to execute but it starts with finding a young shut down corner (maybe 2023 2nd round or 2024 1st round) and working Durant into a starting role. Then work towards the lineup I suggested.
