Wentz and Garappolo signed for almost the exact same money. So the Rams "made a mistake"? Do we know how much Wentz and his agent were asking from the Rams? Furthermore, despite the win vs San Francisco, which the author of that article is putting so much stock in, how many playoff games has Wentz started? 1 and the oft-injured QB lasted half of 1 quarter throwing 4 passes. Garappolo has started 6 postseason games, winning 4, while throwing 132 passes. I'm not so sure CW > JG as a backup. Everywhere Wentz has been he's been labeled as a malcontent, a locker room problem. Perhaps it wasn't much different in L.A., though you won't hear that from the Rams as they don't typically (if ever) throw players under the bus. An honest opinion might be, no matter who is under center should #9 go down, we're probably fooked. It's a little like lambasting the Yankees or Dodgers for not having a capable backup should Aaron Judge or Shohe Ohtani go down.

Wentz barely made any throws in that win. I appreciated him and what he did, but I get why McVay let him walk.
McVay requires an ability to hit wideouts downfield. He hasn't had that with most of his backups here. Jimmy isn't great at that, but he is better than Wentz.

If you know anything about Wentz, he is an outdoors guy, a Midwestern guy, a conservative. He likes hunting, and he grew up in ND. I don't think LA was his thing. I would not be surprised that he was looking elsewhere. KC fits his personality and lifestyle.
And not sure he even fit this offense. Not a pure pocket passer. Not accurate or consistent enough for this type of offense. Both sides probably agreed that he wasn't a fit.

I mean… as a gift to his OL, he got them shotguns… not fly kicks or watches or typical gifts… shotguns…
I’m sure they were really nice… but Kelce and other OL while appreciating the gift had no idea what to do with it as some don’t shoot and I think I read one of them has it in storage because his wife won’t allow it in the house.
There’s no question he’s not an LA guy, but no one cares about that. He’s not someone who can run McVay’s offense. McVay outright said that they installed an offense that Wentz could run and during that game, McVay was frustrated as hell at times that he didn’t have his entire offense to work with.
There was never a chance Wentz was coming back. Period.
Sports “journalism” has been reduced to crap opinion pieces without the barest of research effort and no editorial responsibility whatsoever.
I read less and less of it every year because of garbage like this. Most of the folks on this site could have written better from a better informed and better researched point of view

Jimmy runs the offense the way McVay wants it run (but has limitations), with Wentz they had to cater to him too much.

I didn't read the article. McVay will have to change things up a little bit for Jimmy G. (Watch the long passes). If this O Line plays to their potential Jimmy G will be fine. He is good and accurate inside 20 yards. He knows how to work the screen game too. I thought Wentz was a good signing. I think Jimmy G is an upgrade.

I appreciate Wentz stepping in and leading the Rams to victory over the 69ers but it is: Mayfield>Garrapola>Wentz as a QB.
