When my friends talk to me about how bad the Rams are this year I try to explain to them that the o-line injuries have been historically bad and the reply is always “tHeY mOrTgAgEd tHeIr FuTuRe oN StAfFoRd” SMH. They only see the Rams when they are on prime time and it’s often against 9ers which (in their minds) validates their argument-they just don’t get it.

This illustrates the point that those of us here who follow the Rams with a passion that borders on obsession, know much more about the Rams than non-Rams' fans, and most of the National Media.

Now where we can come-up short as die-hard Rams' fans is whether we can be objective and avoid being foolishly too optimistic or too pessimistic.

Some lessons ... just my opinions ...
... Don't pay too much attention to the National Media ... even those that played and coached the Game.
... Really don't pay attention to fans of other teams when they discuss the Rams.

... Understand and accept that those fans of other teams probably know their team better than we do.

In my opinion, the Rams have some issues and problems but the extensive injuries to the O-Line (Seriousness and Quantity) translate to a team that can-not-compete. Would this group, if fairly healthy, be good enough?
I don't know.

It's pretty simple...it's derailed everything. EVERYTHING. And it's led to cascading failures elsewhere--can't play call the way you want, injuries at skill positions make it difficult to scheme, etc.

No team anywhere, ever would succeed in the face of this kind of shit.

I don't know what the ceiling would've been for the Rams this year.. but the reason they're in the basement is the injuries.

Period.

Bottom line is, they are wrong. But only partially.

It is true they put themselves in a position where they must draft really well for the design to work. And they haven't. So part of the problem is NOT the OL.

But the 800 lb gorilla is clearly their unprecedented bad luck with the OL. If this line were stable, the problem above would still exist but we'd be right there in the hunt, hoping to get hot before the playoffs...

Yeah I get that or the classic "Every team has to deal with injuries" line. I'm like, no... you don't understand.... and I explain but they still refuse to understand for some reason. Oh well, I'm looking forward to the team being healthy next year and shutting people back up.

Undoubtedly this year is a disaster with unheard of injury numbers. I'd be interested in hearing some analysis about how its possible for this many OL to go down in a season. There has to be an underlying cause and I don't think it is just dumb luck or the extended season during the SB run last year.

Off season program, equipment failures, practice field conditions, too much turf, all of the above????

I'm sure the Rams players and FO would like some answers too, whatever it is, there need to be changes given consideration to not allow it to repeat.

I think they need a class on moving your legs to avoid injury. Yoga / Stretching Flexibility classes too.

If in every game a different guy lines up next to you, you are going to have bad days.

I don't have a problem with fans of the Washington Commodes at work

I tell them how many injuries the Rams have had and they go - well at least you got the Superbowl last year

And they proceed to tell me about how injuries their OL suffered in 2018 or 2019 - they can't remember which year it was

I agree with all of this. I had to stop watching national media years ago when I determined that it’s all scripted anyway nothing real to it. I think maybe Orlovsky might be one of a handful that give real opinions. Happy holidays my friend! And Go Rams!

I have definitely been given the same “injuries” line as well. I too am looking forward to the offseason and next year. Happy holidays and go Rams!

Who cares what other people say?

We got to enjoy a championship last year. We've enjoyed 2 since the 1999 season.

Putting aside Patriots fans, who are in a different stratosphere from everyone else, you know how many fan bases have enjoyed more than 2 championships since 1999? Zero.

How many have, like us, enjoyed two? Four: Giants, Ravens, Steelers, Buccaneers.

So... if you're talking to someone who is under 25 (I presume people don't remember football from when they were 3 or less), and they're not a fan of the Patriots or one of the four listed above, they can talk all they want, but they wish their team had our team's hardware.

Have to disagree in part there is a shit ton of Rams fans posters who bandwagon who say "Burn it down" "Need a complete rebuild" " McVay sucks/Snead sucks" etc etc etc.

Why do true Ram fans do this fucking pathetic. I have been saying over and over and over it is the massive amount of injuries. I have been watching football a long time and have never ever seen any team go through this bad of an injury list and most of it concentrated on the OL now it has permeated to the WRs and QBs plus the odd several on Defense.

This is not a Superbowl hangover we're we as good as last year without Whit, and later on OBJ/Von and Robinson underperforming clear no but we aren't a 3 win team either. If we didn't have this devastating amount of injuries and had an OL who didnt miss any games like last year (minus Whit missing a couple) we would have minimumly 7 or 8 wins.

BTW no one would be complaining.

I could give a shit what the national media or other fanbases say. When the Rams, due to injuries, are starting a different OL combination every week and including nursing home rejects there is simply no other conclusion to be drawn that the OL injuries have destroyed their season. And as the articles in the OP said, they are at an unprecedented level. Take any of the teams that are good now and give them that level of OL injury and they'd be in the same predicament.

Not to say there isn't anything that can be improved upon, not to say we were guaranteed to repeat or even be a contender. But the unprecedented level of OL injury pretty much guaranteed our season would go to shit.

the only trouble with your scenario is if we had all those picks no one know who we might have picked. we also gave 2 2nd rounders for petters. anyhow that's a lot of picks and maybe we would have hit on 2 or 3 ol men that weren't injury Pron. i know a lot of posters say high draft picks are a crap shoot but doesn't that make the lower picks even greater crap shoot. plus if we had those draft pick we would have had more cap space and could have picked up some veteran back ups.
