Blaine Grisak of DTR posed this question on twitter and I think it's an interesting one. Which pair of former Rams receivers would you pick to be on a mythical Rams team with 1999 Kurt Warner at QB? Pick a Pair from:

Isaac Bruce
Torry Holt
Henry Ellard
Flipper Anderson
Cooper Kupp
Robert Woods
Az Hakim
Ricky Prohl
Jack Snow
Crazy Legs Hirsch
OBJ
Billy Waddy

I was going to make this a poll, but there would be too many combination choices, so hit me with your best shot! I got Rev Ike and Cooper Kupp!

Ellard and Snow. Kupp in the slot.

Bruce and Holt were amazing, but too much of that was Warner.

Who are the best 2 right now? Kupp of course but who else? Van is in and out of the lineup, is OBJ running the right route this time? Rookie Skow?
Is this part of the problem, that Stafford doesn’t trust everyone else or they’re not where they’re supposed to be? When the ball is behind we assume it’s the qb but maybe it’s not. When OBJ and Kupp are in the same area(again!) it’s obvious someone screwed up but aside from the pick in Baltimore nobody is really talking about the job the WRs other than Kupp are doing.

I'd still pick Bruce and Holt with Crazy Legs Hirsch in the slot. No offense meant to Kupp at all, but all three are in the Hall (or will be, in Torry's case) for a reason and Kupp simply isn't there yet. It wasn't all Warner with Bruce and Holt; Bruce had his best season in 1995 with no-names at quarterback, while Holt had six consecutive 1,300 yard seasons from 1999 to 2005.

As for Crazy Legs, he revolutionized the whole idea of a wide receiver, was fairly tall for his era (6'2"), extremely fast (and probably would be even faster, were he born in the modern era), and had sticky glue for hands. He simply was the best of his era and and I think people tend to forget that. He was Cooper Kupp before Cooper Kupp was even born.

Believe me, I love Cooper Kupp and what he's done, but I need to see how he'll finish his career before I put him among the absolute HOFers of our wide receivers.

This wasn't necessarily who had the most prestigious careers, it's who you would want on your team with a Kurt Warner in his prime, fighting for a Championship. Ike had the numbers year after year, but he also had maybe the most important TD in Rams Super Bowl history. No one has mentioned Ricky Prohl, but without that TD grab to win against Tampa Bay, there is no Rams Super Bowl in 1999. Hirsch was involved with a National Championship himself. Kupp just finished the best single season performance in Rams history. Flipper had a huge receiving day in history (336 yards vs. the Saints in 1989). My question was going for the most impactful two receivers with Capt Kurt at the helm.

I'm going with Bruce and Holt a group 1A, with Ellard and Kupp as group 1B (ever so slightly below the top two).

And as for the poster above who credited Warner for the success of Bruce and Holt, a reminder that Bruce's best season (statistically speaking) was in 1995 with retreads Chris Miller and Mark Rypien throwing to him, while he was virtually the only thing we had on offense thanks to the fact that Jerome Bettis quit like a dog on us that year. And both Bruce and Holt put up very good numbers with Marc Bulger as well.

As for Ellard, I'm still pissed at Chuck Knox for trading him away when he did. Guy had three 1000-yard seasons after he left the Rams. What an absolute bonehead move that was.

And I recall in 1992 being happy that Chuck Knox besides being named Head Coach was also President of Football Operations. I was actually more happy he was President of Football Operations as i wanted Mike Holmgren to be hired as Rams Head Coach.

Georgia passed on Holmgren even though John Shaw suggested the hire because she said Carroll Rosenbloom her late husband always said his biggest mistake was letting Knox go in 1978.

I dreaded it when they re-hired him. And it turned out pretty much like I expected it would. Totally uninspiring hire.
