There should be no ties in football period.
Well then I really do like a quarterback wrestling to submission match in the middle of the field for all to see. It has about the same probability of getting past the players union and would be far more entertaining to the fans as appending another quarter :)

But seriously why no ties?

I actually like the current OT rules a lot. Look no further than last year’s NFC Championship game. The Rams didn’t cry about losing the coin toss, they got the job done. I read an article a little while back breaking down the numbers since these OT rules were put in place and they do not favour the team winning the toss the way some people seem to believe they do. It’s not as if TDs are scored on 90% of drives in this league. Defenses are capable of holding teams to 3 points or less more often than not. Bear down and give your own offense a chance. If not, you deserve the loss.

Well... since it was Seattle that got the win, from a coin toss then a single drive against a likely gassed TB defense - I think this format sucks. ;):ROFLMAO:

But seriously, somehow the format needs to allow for each team to have a crack at scoring... or it just needs to just end in a tie. Certainly the possibility of a tie, would change some strategies towards the end of the 4th quarter - because ties are almost as good as losses in this league. Just ask AZ...

we may as well put a bin in the corner of the endzone and have each qb stand on the middle of the 30 yard line and try to throw the ball into it. first to 3 drop ins wins.

"Go ahead, Jared. Three in the bucket. This @kurtfaulk is a friend of mine, and I'm tellin' ya, if he says the league is headed in this direction, you can bank on it.

When he told me the Rams were getting male cheerleaders, I just laughed. But who's laughing now?

...right in the bucket now Jared. Go buddy."

The way it should go is whoevers offense is on the field last automatically they start on Defense -NO coin toss. Why have a coin toss.

As some have mentioned TB had to be on defense two times in a row do you think that is fair. How tired were they?

So if the receiving team holds the ball for 9:59 and kicks a FG, is OT over? Or does the other team get an untimed possession?
Great question

What happens when the recieving team throws an int , defense recovers and then fumbles it away again. Does that count as a possession for both teams ?

Tell that to the Bucs players. I know they won't agree with you. I'm sure the Chiefs would have wanted a chance to get a TD in the AFC Championship game where the defenses where non-existent in the 4th quarter.

In both games, viewers would have been clued to the game to see if the loser would have scored a tieing TD.

What's silly is giving a team a win because they guessed a coin toss correctly while giving a team a loss without a chance to score while on offense.

dude ? How long have you been an NFL fan ?? I stick to the traditional type thing. The Rams were a defensive team for years.A field goal would win it because of a coin flip. There have not been to many ties in the NFL.
How did The Win against the Saints ?? Was it because of a coin flip or a bad call ??

Winning an overtime game on a field goal ?? Really just because the Saint didn’t score a TD ?? — It’s overtime. Think about the playoffs?? What game is more important??
