Watching the Buffalo game where Dawkins got called for a completely bullshit hold call and I really want the NFL to allow an official to review plays where it is 100% clear if a penalty occurred or not. Nothing close should be reviewable. That should keep the game flowing well enough.

I think we need a come to jesus about holding calls. They probably kill 80% of drives.

If there is offensive holding on every play, each team should be called for an equal amount

Its the holds by OL when the QB takes off running that impact the game the most, yet get called the least. Hurts TD run was sprung by a hold as was at least 1 of his runs for a 1st down.

I am saying obvious holds not holds that occur on every play.

For example, an OL holds a Defensive Player from behind, grabs a jersey and a DL tries to pull away and the OL still holds onto the jersey, or tackles a player - those are holds

I saw AD grabbed from behind and around his throat too many times for a couple seconds and no hold called.

Leave the split sec holds alone.

That's exactly what happened to I believe it was Davis trying to close the gap on Saquons last huge home run. LT was holding his shoulder pads as he was trying to move vertical and it allowed saquon to run through.

Personally, I think the penalty for a hold being 10 yards is too impactful. Whenever we get called for a hold, I know that drive is finished. Make it 5 yards and call it equally.

That doesn't work though - because some obvious ones WILL get missed, organically. Similar to how facemasks sometimes get missed in a sea of bodies.

There needs to be a tally kept and someone in the officials ear. If two obvious holds get called on team A and you get to late in the third quarter and no holds have been called on team B, that is a problem IMO. 99% chance one got missed already.

I am saying the one's where they show the replays and it is 100% a penalty or not a penalty. That's where the guy in the sky can overturn calls. That Buffalo hold was clearly not a hold. Everyone saw it. That one needed to be overturned.

Close one's can't be reviewed so the game doesn't slow down.

The only way to fix the penalty mess is to use AI.
Try it in preseason just for holding calls only, and if it works, expand it to the regular season the next year.
If it calls too many penalties one week, dial it back the next week, or vise versa.
Could eventually replace the human bias completely.

Yep. I'd have a lighting system for the teams and crowd and one ref who gets the calls spoken in his earpiece.

Goal is no reviews and unnecessary stoppages. Teams would need to adjust to higher call rates though I'd imagine.
