Most heartbreaking moments in Los Angeles Rams history

by Pete D. CamarilloMay 30, 2020

The history of the Los Angeles Rams features plenty of successes as well as heartbreaks across their time spent in both St. Louis and L.A.

Of course, the team broke Los Angelinos’ hearts when they left for St. Louis in the 1990s. The Rams then spurned St. Louis when they returned to L.A. in 2015, too. They won their only title in Missouri and the state offered to use public money to build them a state-of-the-art stadium to stay. It wasn’t enough

The series of moves aside, these are the four greatest heartbreaks in Rams franchise history.

Trading Eric Dickerson

It’s lazy to limit the Rams’ greatest devastations to their Super Bowl losses. That’s why Eric Dickerson’s trade must get mentioned as well.

"Waddy was open" was heartbreaking for this 12 year old surrounded by a bunch of Steelers fans.
(My cousin is John Kolb, so all relatives are Steelers fans)

13 years old back then and I think most of us were surrounded by Steeler fans, but not to the intentisity you were. Jon Kolb, hell of a player and if you still see him, let him know his story on how he was drafted and was rude to Art Rooney was hilarious.

Trent Green going down in pre-season in '99. Of course Rams went on to SB, but at the time everyone was devastated. Vermiel cried, a lot of us did.

But to me there is no single moment more heartbreaking than suffering through 17 straight losses to the 48er's.

I was watching that game with my buddy and we were tripping on how good we were looking in preseason and my buddy says “we might just be a playoff team this year” and right then Trent goes down. I was like FUCK who is the backup? It still being preseason and all and we realized it was some awkward looking dude named Warner. We both almost died.

Obviously the field goal at the last second in the super bowl was by far the worst moment in Ram history, but if we aren't counting those, then it was A-hole 49er and JAG Dana Stubblefield saying "same old sorry ass Rams!!!

Hollywood Henderson's pick 6 in the '78 Championship game. It was the final nail in the coffin. I was 11 and I cried my eyes out.

Well, I was watching it live on channel 8. Rodney took a cheap shot. Trent was 8-8 when it happened. I think he still completed the pass.

Had just sent a girlfriend to Vegas who dropped off the 5 dimes against the Ravens -2 1/2.Had a 150-1 future ticket that I shopped around for. Wish I never made the play if I could turn back time.

The Stalworth reception that nicked of short little Rod Perry. He was right there & read it right.

Ronnie Lott INT coming across the field sucked Big Time !!! Great play, but was like a high fly ball a batter just misses with the bases loaded hit a Mile High.

Chrissy Everett thing pissed me off because of Jim Rome. Then again Dickerson leaving made him the scape goat.

When Nolan Cromwell was a foot too short to intercept that TD in the Super Bowl. Cromwell said it still haunts him today.... (Me too.)

"With the underdog Rams ahead 19-17 in the third quarter, Cromwell stepped in front of Steelers' receiver Lynn Swann for a critical interception of a short pass and an open field -- and almost certain TD -- in front of him.

Except he didn't make it. Didn't catch the ball. Didn't score. Nothing."

Seriously, you guys trying to kill me?
