Players come and they go, but some bother me more than others. My prime example is Chris Long. Long was the guy I was so excited for when we picked him #2 overall. I hoped the best things for him, every year. He had a pretty good career with the Rams in St Louis for 8 years. When he left the Rams he played for one year with the Patriots and two years with the Iggles. His greatest success was with those teams, garnering two rings with them and none with the Rams. But still, the bulk of his career was in horns. 54.5 of 70 sacks were earned as a Ram. He only gained 15.5 sacks in three years after he left..... I see him hugging Iggle players like they are long lost relatives and I hardly remember him saying anything for us last year. He may have even picked us to lose to the Bengals in the Super Bowl, but am not sure. F*ck him.
Here's my list of the disloyal:
1. Chris Long (8 years as a Ram)
2. Kurt Warner (6 years as a Ram, 1-1 in two Super Bowls)
3. Hacksaw Reynolds (11 years as a Ram, 4 years as Niner)

There were others who left, but came back into the fold when they retired. Eric Dickerson for one. Jerome Bettis is known as Mr. Steeler now, but he did spend the bulk of his career with them. Deacon Jones even went to the Chargers, but few identify him with that team and he was a vocal ex-Ram wanting the Rams back in LA. Oh and London Fletcher...we did him dirty and I missed him for years afterwards (wasn't his fault).

Can you think of any other disloyal ex-Rams?

Disloyal isn't the term I'd use. Rams were the ones to move on, released all those players, leaving them free to go elsewhere. If they identify more with other franchises, it is what it is. Under Georgia, and Shaw, and before Demoff arrived, the Rams didn't maintain strong relationships with their alumni.

Kevin Greene would be an ex-Ram who identified as a Steeler first.

Loyalty must be mutual otherwise the player is nothing but another blind talking head. If a player gives all he has then the organization shits on you then why should loyalty be demanded? Oh, and BTW being shit on is subjective isn't it. It's how it's perceived by the player. From the team's point of view, it could be a shrewd move, but from the player's point of view, it could be a screw job.

As fans, we don't have any skin in the game so our perspective is different. So to throw around terms like disloyal seems a bit of a misnomer. If you meant hard to understand then I might get on board in some cases. Either way, I think there can be a case made on either side.

I think of it more like this:

1981 Jack Reynolds: who was the idiot that let him go to the Whiners? Sure, they just released him but should've traded so he wouldn't go there. Not a traitor... but I have a hard time with him being a Whiner.

1983 Wendell Tyler: Had some good years for us but was a fumbler. Not in Dickerson's class, who replaced him. Whiners had no running game in 1981 and 1982, Jeff Moore? Puh-lease. Then we let them have Tyler. Maybe they thought he would fumble the ball back to them. Not a traitor, but same feelings as Reynolds.

2003 Kurt Warner: not a traitor but some butt-hurt went on with him. I may have felt the same if I was cast away after winning a city a SB though. I think he's over it. Some don't.

1997 Kevin Greene: Yeah he went from Rams to Steelers to Panthers to Whiners... or some combo like that. But I was shocked when he went to the Whiners later. I announced him as a traitor at the time, have long since let it go, but I did not want him winning a SB w/the damn whiners and thank the football gods he didn't.

Chris Long... nah. He was bashed a lot in the Post forum though.

I’m disappointed Warner doesn’t hold a special place in his heart for the Rams. I get Martz may have been careless and even disrespectful on how he treated Warner, but it’s a big disappointment that the best QB (by far) in the NFL for 3 years played for the Rams and Warner prefers to recognize his time with the Cards. That’s why I respect Goff so much. IMO he achieved great things with the Rams and he displayed an unbelievably great attitude despite being traded away because he “wasn’t good enough” to win a Super Bowl for the Rams.

Me too. Goff has been totally classy as has been Matthew Stafford toward his ex-team. I have lived and died with this team over the years and have strong feelings for Rams history, so it pains me to see those three players I mentioned, forgetting the years they spent with the Rams. We all hoped Steven Jackson could get a Super Bowl ring when he left us due the many years we wasted during the dark years, yet he has come back as a team advocate. I like that.

I was so glad when Tyler was gone. He would almost kill me on game day with those critical fumbles. I would have a knot in my stomach all game, seeing that ball carrying arm swinging in space and getting it knocked out at the end of a great run. It's why I loved Cullen Bryant at the time...

Kurt seems like he couldn't care less about the Rams, but I guess they did kind of screw him on his way out

I completely understand how fans feel when it comes to players leaving their favorite teams. Hell, I hate all players who don't wear our Horns on Sundays.

Loyalty on the Pro level of sports is a hard one though. Just remember... most players in the NFL have no say as to what team they play for.

It's not the same with College. The players decide where they will go... they choose their team at that level and that is where most Pros will show their Loyalty. So it really isn't extremely common to see real loyalty from players at the Pro level.

That's another reason I am such a huge fan of ED2105. I know he's crazy sometimes, but he does show Loyalty to our Rams even though that woman and her bean counter did him dirty. He's always gonna be my favorite Ram... and knowing he actually wants to be known as a forever part of our team by choice makes it easier for me to keep him at my #1 spot.

Warner irks me that still held a grudge long after the principals who screwed him were gone. Yeah, I get holding a grudge against Martz and some of the others of that era (and certainly some of the St. Louis media, like Bernie) ... but against the franchise as a whole? It ticks me off more because I rooted for him with the Cardinals and was happy when he showed he still had it and that Martz was the problem, not him.

Dude, your only ring came with the Rams, and it was that franchise that first put you on an NFL roster and gave you a shot. Don't hold a grudge against the team now or current regime, hold it against Martz and others who shit on you and are no longer with the team.

Bettis also irks me because he acts like the Rams somehow screwed him over. The Rams changed coaches, and the new head coach didn't see eye to eye with him. So instead of keeping him around in misery, they traded him to a team where he could be put to better use. He should have been thankful. And to make it worse, he fucking quit on the Rams his last season there, his effort was pitiful. So fuck him sideways with a 2x4. Bettis is the one I hold the most animosity towards.

Also some towards Kevin Carter, who also quit on the Rams during his last year in horns.

Long I just find kind of annoying, but it doesn't irk me as much. He kind of reminds me of PC Principal from South Park.

Reynolds I bear no ill will towards - I bear it towards those that cut him. He should have never been let go.

Absolutely. If anyone could have had a good reason to hold a grudge, it was him. Instead, as someone else said, he used it as fuel to motivate him and work on his game and now he's got his mojo back. And as McVay himself said, Goff was one of the first ones to text him a congratulatory message after the Super Bowl win. With the exception of those times he might be standing in the Rams way, I'll always root for him.

"I'll never forget the day Jeff Kemp went to the 49ers. I'm still REKT!" ~ Den
I only wish that John Robinson had gone to Jeff Kemp in the 2nd half of the 1985 NFC Championship game against the Chicago Bears instead of sticking with the Statue Ralph Dieter Brock. With my humblest apologies to @dieterbrock
