Ah, that would have been the perfect job for Jeff Fisher... perform average and never get fired. He just can't catch a break.

It’s kind of hard to dislike Marvin Lewis. He seems like a good guy.

But... I don’t know if I’d be happy as a Bengals fan. At some point you have to make a serious run in the playoffs. The Bengals have never reached that point.

I can only assume they see a ton of competition to fill HC vacancies and the devil you know is better than what could be left.

I like him too. I liked Fish as well for that matter.

IMO in today's NFL the head coach needs to be an expert on one side of the ball, able to hold down a top unit or at the least maximize talent on one side of the ball. Lewis just seems old and tired, and mediocre in terms of holding it down on defense. That defense is also why he hasn't won a playoff game in a bazillion tries, although unlike Fisher he at least gets into the playoffs.

Given how long Lewis has been in place I would have axed him, personally. I think the Bengals ownership has come a long way, and it's respectable how he values continuity, but it's time I think. Keeping him on probably has more to do with a fear of getting back into the coaching dice roll. I understand all that, but after fifteen seasons or whatever I think enough's enough, and it's time to get a bright mind in there that can elevate you on one side, then try to get the other side covered with a strong staff.

Well the other coach in Ohio is 1-31 and got to keep his job so.....
 
He should of been fired after that debacle against the Steelers in the playoffs .

Other than that could another coach so alot better ? Dalton is not a guy to build your team around and you can't win with guys like pacman and burfict running the team .

That team doesn't have much talent maybe the gm is the issue
 
I thought earlier that they decided on a mutual parting of the ways...I really think if I was a Bengals fan, I'd be ready for a change...Of course I've been saying that for a few years now...Getting to the playoffs is cool, but 0 for ever gets old after about 54 years...
 
Wow! It's decisions like this that make me so thankful the Rams pulled the plug on Fisher. Can't believe they want more of Lewis. Lewis just can't get the job done. He should have been toast years, seriously, years ago!
 
Ok, so it's Mike Brown is a cheap ass, Marvin Lewis is fine with it, and Lewis is willing to work at below average HC wage. Good for both of them, I guess. Sucks for the fans.

Basketball teams in Lithuania probably have it better than this:

So Brown prefers the status quo, especially when the status quo doesn’t require him to spend more money on players. Which sheds light on the willingness of Brown to sign players like Vontaze Burfict, who went undrafted not because of talent — along with the willingness of Brown to remain patient with a head coach who is 0-7 in the playoffs. Regardless of whether the Bengals win or lose in the postseason, being good enough to get there every year is good for business.
