1 year 2 million...

not a lot of money.. was assuming we'd keep him.

I'm guessing we'll be less dependent on the multiple safety sets with our new DC compared to what Wade like to run. Especially with a shut down corner in Ramsey on the outside. So not surprised to see a lot of defensive players leaving but surprised by how little interest we've shown in bringing other guys in so far. But Snead has been known to wait until after the initial spending splurge to nab his free agents.

Addition by subtraction here. Secondary is going to look a whole lot different this year.

Although Marqui, and then this year Rapp made some plays for us in that hybrid safety spot, I actually think we're better off using a guy that's more of a real linebacker, like a Travin Howard in a spot like that. When Howard started being used more on passing downs last year he made plays. I'm just big on having more bigger guys on the field than a bunch of secondary players. Teams seem to have been capitalizing on that against us for a few years...lots of plays with seeing big lineman down the field blockers our smaller defenders on big run plays.

I would say this remains to be seen.

We stole him from the Cardinals when they tried to sneak him through on waivers and we got a lot of good use out of him for almost nothing.
But yeah, I'm not sure if he's worth two million but I'm very glad to see the guy get paid.

Who do we have at safety now? Johnson, Rapp, Scott, I think there is a guy by the name Steven that I've seen guys high on.

Marqui did improve last year, maybe he has turned a corner. But over his career for us he was a liability in coverage and a penalty machine. I wanted to smack him for stupid penalties several times!!

He was great depth for us. Best of luck to him

honestly I think that was more because they wanted to keep Rapp in that hybrid role and didn't trust him in coverage as much.

You made me actually slow down & agree.
The Rams are not going to be adding much new blood though. The look is going to though big time. Even just from a format point of view.

Marqui played well last year and showed he's got starting potential. IMO his contract is a prove-it contract. I knew he wouldn't resign with the Rams as there was no path to be a starter baring catastrophic injury to Rapp or Johnson.

Another good decision by Demoff /Snead/McVay/Staley to let Marqui go out & earn a good pay raise!(y)
