When I heard Roberts had cited "troubles at home" for Tucker not playing Saturday, I thought the guy was having issues at his actual home. Didn't realize it was Dodger Stadium he was talking about. And then back in the lineup Sunday, the guy gets booed for missing a ball off his glove near the fence. Not quite the Joey Gallo/Yankee Stadium issues but concerning just the same. 18 of their 37 remaining game are at home.

Yeah, the Dodgers are in a funk right now. It would have to be a total collapse to miss the playoffs. I don't see that happening. But it has the feel of a team that is fatigued. Playing longer than anyone else the past couple years. A lot of pressure on them with the expectations. I expect them to do better than 2-8 or 3-7. But right now I don't see a 8-2 stretch in them. They just need to get healthy for the stretch run. Maybe a tight race down to the wire is not a bad thing. Sometimes clinching early and coasting can cause a team to lose its edge.
That double edged sword. Going back to back is great but it also can wear you down. Particularly if you're an old team, which the Dodgers are. That's another double edged sword. Experience is great but it comes with age. They don't look fatigued, they look worn out.
Its August, this happens EVERY year.
When the lights shine the brightest, in October, they will be playing their best. Count on it!!!
That's the optimistic viewpoint.
In 2023 they went 24-5 in August; 16-12 in September (40-17 total) then got swept by Arizona in the postseason.
In 2024 they went 19-8 in August and 16-10 in September (35-18) and won the World Series.
Last year they went 15-13 in August and 15-10 in September (30-23 total) and won the World Series.
This year they are 5-10 in August and people are talking about how hard it is to go that deep every year and not get worn out. Particularly as they get older.
Freeman is 36 and is hitting .240 with 0 HRs in August so far.
Betts is 33 and is hitting .255 in August. If you take away 2 games, a 4-5 and 3-4 game, he's hitting .143
Kiki (34) is hitting .087
Teoscar (33) is hitting .176
Tucker is 29 but he's hitting .190 from July 7th to date.
Rojas is 37, Muncy is 35.
I'm not saying they're washed up, I'm simply saying those people may be right. Age and two long seasons in a row has worn them down. Hey, we'll see. It may be when those bright lights come on, they'll all feel like they're 25 again and we'll see that three peat.
Absolutely!!! Vegas will like them to the bitter end, as they should. 2 time defending champs trying to join the A's and Yankees as the only teams to win 3 consecutive Championships. Damn if only Mariano would have got those 3 outs in the bottom of ninth in 2001, they would have been 4 time defending Champs. Oh well, have to settle for 3.
So far the two big offseason acquisitions have not worked out. Tucker batting .230 with 11 homers. He averaged 27 HR's a season the previous 5 years. Even with missing half a season a couple years ago. Diaz gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in one inning. That is at least the 3rd time I remember him doing that. The previous times he blew a 2 run lead and lost the game. His ERA is over 11. Roberts might have to move his spot in the bullpen. Give him the 6th or 7th inning and have a short leash. He can't be trusted to save a 2 run lead in the 9th. He's lucky they had such a big lead last night.
Yeah both of them have absolutely been terrible.
I am not so upset with Tucker's offense as I am with his defense. He is still doing better than last years outfielder.
However, he is dropping easy fly balls in the outfield. Just terrible defense.
They don't need home field advantage in the playoffs. But they do need one of those byes. They could use some rest. I see they didn't take a chance on Diaz to protect a two run lead in the 9th. Scott made it interesting but he held on. Barely.
I dont know, the bye didn't seem to help in 22 or 23. Health is the more important thing.
I never thought I'd adore a Dodgers player to the point of platonic love.

I know! He has a rare Tyranitar Pokemon card in a glove! I'm so ecstatic and happy that these big leaguers are a lot like me! Now all we need is for them to start playing the Pokemon games, and their journey towards the Dark Side will be complete!
EDIT: The "I know!" part wasn't meant as a slight or out of annoyance, but out of sheer excitement, just for clarification. I realize that Internet stuff is hard, and I have no wish to offend. Apologies for not making it clearer.
All right. Got the series sweep. I think the Dodgers will get right. It will be interesting to see their playoff roster. I wonder if they use Robo and Sasaki as relievers - maybe Lauer too.
