Very sad news today the great Larry Allen passed away suddenly at the age of 52 while on vacation with his family.

Was probably the most dominant OG I have ever seen play.
He and Eric Williams formed maybe the best right side of an OL ever.

He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2013.

Prayers for his family.

He was a Cowboy. And, while I hate the 'Boys, he was a great NFL guard. The game was better for him having played.

Larry played for UC Davis. And back in the day they used to come up and play Humboldt State and beat our brains in.
I worked at a mill where Humboldt's starting D end worked a summer job. Big guy, 6' 6" and about 265.
Larry was killing him one game. He said when he grabbed you, he threw you around like you were a little kid.
Said he was the strongest human ever.
So...........................my guy got tired of it and cut him one play.
The next play , after he got up he literally had his helmet knocked sideways looking out a ear hole.
He never cut him again.

I thought Larry Allen played at Sonoma State.

Most physically dominant OL in history in my opinion.
That I saw anyway.
That Cowboys line was just epic.
Emmett is a HOF and all time great running back.
I do wonder what an average starting NFL running back....say, a Cleveland Gary type, would have done behind that line.

Don’t sell gary short. He could fumble behind any OL.

Yeah, you are right. Sonoma State was the "other" school from that area who used to come up here and beat our brains in. Thats why UC Davis stood out in my mind.
UC Davis also had some guys who went pro. Some of those scores were like 60-10 kinda thing.
The divisions have changed and both those school are no longer on Humboldt's schedule.
We now are in a lesser league type thing. Play Western Oregon, Central Washington, Azuza Pacific twice a year.
And now called Cal Polly Humboldt ( I refuse to) I hate it, they are expanding the school. More students. IMO its a effort to shove population from south up here. They are building a 6 story off campus giant dorm complex next to 101 (we don't say "the" 101 up here, thats a So Cal thing. Its a way we can tell the out of towners) that looks right down into my old neighborhood.
Makes me sick. I am a Rams fan, Dodgers fan and Lakers fan (well, will be again when Lebron gets off the team)
Humbodt State is in a quaint little college town of about 15,000. Has a town square plaza, giant redwoods, Victorians and a farming-bottom land area with some of the best soil on earth.
People are coming up here from down there. Well, from all over the country. I see a lot more out of state plates, not just during the summer when people come up to see the trees.
As long as they do not bring the problems they are trying to get away from here !

I don't know much about Larry Allen but I hate seeing anyone pass that young. Feel for his family. RIP big fella.

Larry Allen deserved every bit of his HOF induction. May he rest in peace. Condolences to his family and those who knew him best.

OK, this is what we need in this thread. There is a video of Allens teammate Eric Williams shoving a 49er sideways in Dallas.
Breaking the leg of the Niner.
I am having trouble finding it.
Help ?

Wow. That was fun. Your reply kind of had an evolution to it. Little bit of journey there.
