Early Monday, the St. Louis Rams announced that they will not play in London in 2013 or 2014 as previously planned. Prior to today’s announcement, the intention was to play a “home” game at Wembley Stadium in both of those years. The Rams will, however, still take part in a London based “home” game in 2012 against the New England Patriots on October 28.
“We are looking forward to playing in London this season as the NFL’s International Series offers a unique opportunity to grow the American football audience, expand the Rams’ brand to international fans and enhance St. Louis on the global stage,” according to the Rams official press release and Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Football Operations Kevin Demoff.
“However, moving forward,” Demoff continued, “we believe our attention needs to be on the ongoing first tier process (with the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission).
