Yep.Man, that hurts. That just fucking hurts. And I really feel for Everett, because the dude had talent and if you had put that additional talent around him ... damn, what could have been.
I always knew thought that Robinson didn't have override authority, and it was obvious he would have never picked a guy like Gaston Green. That Rams team with Michael Irvin and Thurman Thomas could have been great well into the 90's. In fact, that Dickerson trade could have set the Rams up the same way the Herschel Walker trade set up the Cowboys, but Whoregia and John Shaw fucked it all up. A pox on both their houses, and so glad neither of those two scumbags is involved with the Rams franchise anymore.
I liked Jim Everett then; and I like him now. Frontiere, Shaw and Zygmunt were beyond awful.
However, Irvin was selected 11th overall in 1988. The Rams' first pick (Gaston Green) was at #14 overall.
Unless the Rams traded-down (I don't believe that was the case), they COULD NOT have taken Michael Irvin ... he was off-the-board.
That calls into question the accuracy of the story.
By-the-way, there were five Backs taken after Green and before Thurman Thomas.
Actually, I'll give you a little help here …
Go read the tweet thread - the Rams had a trade worked out with the Giants.

Exactly what I was going to ask. Maybe they were planning on jumping ahead of the Cowboys? Idk.
Anybody who wasn’t 8 in 1988 could you verify any of this? Lol
