Offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele, who on Friday underwent shoulder surgery, was released by the Jets on Saturday, the team announced.
Osemele's surgery and whether it was needed was a point of contention between the lineman and the New York training staff. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who reported the surgery went well on Friday, added after the release that the move comes in lieu of the Jets placing Osemele on injured reserve and that "grievances will follow."
Osemele was in his first season in New York after three years with the Raiders, two of which ended with Pro Bowl selections.
In a corresponding move, the Jets announced they promoted linebacker James Burgess from the practice squad.

He probably could be had on the cheap, wonder what kind of surgery it was? If it wasn't nothing crazy maybe bring him in cheap as depth?

It was a labrum tear, according to Osemele. He's out for the year.

Don’t expect us to trade for a good OL this deep into the season. There are about 20 teams that have severe issues with their OL so they are all at a premium if they are worth trading for. Plus, we probably want to at least have a draft pick or two left in April...

The Rams will regret not signing him when he's recovering! ~Jake Long & Scott Wells

Scott freakin Wells...My Kingdom for a young strong cerebral Center!

Scouting Report: Cesar Ruiz
School: Michigan Position: Center Class: Junior Height: 6’4″ Weight: 319 Projected Draft Round: 3-5

Scouting Report:
A truly versatile interior lineman that can play either guard position and center. Has the longer arm length, height and frame that NFL teams are now looking for at center, especially as more and more shotgun is used. Most teams are looking for centers that don’t always need help to double team an elite defensive tackle, and that can be used as a driving force in the run game. A smart player that can move seamlessly to either guard spot, will get an early look in the draft.

Love this guy! He is a hell of a linemen and I can tell you for Michigan losses or pressure this guys wasn’t the cause of it. He plays some clean games, sadly I’m thinking we won’t have a chance to draft him since our first is gone now! o_O

Really? I've yet to even see him mocked in the 2nd round. Third seems to be the norm for him and yes I realize a lot can change between now and the draft but that's a lot for an IOL to climb and it's a pretty good draft for them.

He’ll climb. You wait and see! He’ll be in the back of the first or the first half of the 2nd. No chance we trade up for a C. ‍♂️

I'd be surprised if we took one before day 3 if even then tbh.

I doubt anyone picks him so if he clears waivers Rams could get him cheap for a year. Not sure how long he needs for rehab.
I wasn’t really being serious with an surgery with long recovery time.
But, worth looking at.
I would be looking for a cheap vet G and T this offseason.

:) I thought the same at first. Then thinking as a free agent without a not big contract he is worth a flyer on.

I wouldn’t with how shit our interior has played. And mind you a guy like Ruiz can play Guard as effective as Center. Helps a to. When injuries happen.
