One of my friends (fucking 69ers fan!) pointed out Goff's stats since that shitty bears game last year:

In 12 games: 12 TDs, 14 INTs, 5 Fumbles Lost, 56% Completion Percentage

We still have a winning record in those 12 games (7-5) so it's not all bad. He has shown flashes of brilliance, too.

Hopefully he can have a big game against the Forty Whiners this weekend and turn this season around. We know what he can do, now he needs to do it!

We should be more worried about the following:

Gurley
Entire OL
Ebu
Brockers
Fowler
Talib
Peters

I wrote this in an earlier thread and I share the same concerns. I went back to the bye week last year. He has not been the same since Chicago IMO. That was the first 6 man front a defense deployed and New England essentially copied in the Super Bowl.

Now my count was 13 TDs and 14 INTs. It was 12 games including the playoffs. Even more concerning to me was one of those games, Week 17 against SF he threw 4 TDs and 0 Picks, but he only threw for 188 Yards, so it kind of tweeks the numbers but the numbers are the numbers so you still have to include them....point is his play/results could be even worse if not for that game.

My concern is not just Goff though. It comes down to coaching also. Coach and QB always have to be in sync, but it does not feel like things are trending in the right direction.

Now if you add Seattle to this its 14TDs to 15 INTs....13 games and we are approaching a full season sample.

His stats this season:

140/222, 63%, 1649 yds, 7 TD, 7 INT, 5 fumbles

That's the only stat line I'm worried about. He's faced some pretty good defenses since the Lions game last season, and has had, at best, an average running game.

I'm much more concerned over our lack of running game and poor secondary play than Goff.

This is not good though.

I'm concerned about those two things as well.

That said I think the coaching staff will figure out how to make improvements.

He's putting up those numbers against some respectable defenses with below average play from our offensive line and a running game that's probably in the bottom third of the league.

Our defense is allowing 28ppg. Gurley is averaging 54 yards per game. I'm sorry, why is Goff the problem?
He isn’t, he’s trying to carry the team because others including the coaches aren’t pulling their weight.

Not saying Goff is the problem, the thread is titled "worried about Goff" He is our franchise QB and honestly I expect more. oline issues are issues for lots of teams but the QBs work through it. Great QBs figure it out.

As for the defenses he has faced most are worse than ours. Rams rank 13th, Carolina 8th, Saints 19th, Cleveland 18th, Tampa 26th and Seattle 14th. So there is that.

Take the last game: one the 1 yard line he has Woods open and throws behind him. Then driving down the field on the drive before the 2 minute warning he has Higbee wide open for a huge gain and throws to a covered Kupp.....last year he makes those plays.

Not sure why everyone is so afraid to be concerned about his play. Im not saying he is a bust or bum or anything like that, my point is I am concerned. He has not played well this year (not as good as we have seen) and if you take from December to now, its still not good. He has been barely average. The 3rd highest QB should be able to face adversity and make plays under duress when needed. He hasnt done that yet.

I wish we could see how Bortles would play with the first team. Of course, that’s unrealistic.

... so you're saying his play is a problem for you, huh?

I included the stats from the games against those teams, and I'm not sure if you're focusing on total defense or passing defense. Either way, his stats have been not great, but certainly not horrible. Meanwhile, you're including stats in your arbitrary "last 13 games" numbers from the 2018 run of defenses he faced which were very good.

This is all part of maturing as a quarterback.
First he had to overcome Fisher.
And we've all seen the flashes of brilliance.
Most of it occurs when he's getting good protection.

At the moment he is learning how to play well behind bad protection as the line simultaneously gets better.

Goff will be good to go.
I'm glad they signed him to a long-term contract because that means long-term commitment, which means long-term learning.

He's going to be fine.

I don't think Goff has regressed. He was among the most protected QBs last year in the regular season. Teams are making a concerted effort to get pressure and stop the deep plays. That's going to limit the number of long developing plays you can have. The intermediate passing game is going to be critical this year. He isn't any less accurate (in fact I think he's more accurate now under pressure than he was last year).

His turnovers (other than from getting hit or on 4th down when a sack would be worse) have come from linebackers dropping into coverage and not off target throws. Typically linebackers don't catch those balls, but that kind of stuff happens when you rely on the short passing game.

I don't even mind the deeper throws to covered receivers. Goff has the accuracy to complete those and I'd rather him stay aggressive than become the checkdown king.

The offense can still score points, but if they don't have a strong running game the D is going to get gassed and allow points.

That JAX game fractured my worry bone, and the Seahawk loss broke it all the way off. I do want the Rams to win every game, but I can't control what's happening and I am through worrying about things I can't control. When we were a bad team, I used to just watch Aaron Donald and not much else. I found myself doing that again in the Hawks game...lol...that's bad,
