So my son and I were out scouting for an upcoming antelope hunt yesterday. We pulled into an area I had been looking at on my mapping app and noticed a sign. I took a picture of the sign so that I could contact the owners and ask permission to venture onto their land from BLM land if necessary. Well after scouting and finding a nice sized elk herd as well as a bunch of Himalayan Snowcocks and then a small herd of antelope, we returned home.

This morning I started to research the land company that owns the property and found that it is owned by none other than our own Stan Kroenke. After further research I found that the private land around where our October Elk hunt is also owned by our team owner. I also found that the land used to be owned by Bing Crosby.

So I sent them an email to ask permission to hunt their property and included that I am a third generation Ram fan and gave them my license plate that says RAMSRUL.

Wish me luck Rams brothers and sisters. With any luck, I will pull a couple animals off of Rams land.

Cheers

I’m very curious to here the response.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they respond with liability concerns, though.

It will likely be more centered on if there were others ahead of me. Most ranchers want to know who is on their ranch if they allow hunting. This area is a big hunting area and Nevada is a big personal responsibility state. For example, a bar is not liable for over serving. That is considered the patron's responsibility.

I like how Nevada is in regards to responsibility.

Anyways that’s interesting as hell, in curious if there is any response to this!

Lmao After I googled Himalayan Snovksocks I was confused asf until I realized it was typed in wrong….

i wanna go home tom hiddleston GIF

No. They're somewhat like pheasant though. Mainly in size. They're about the size of a duck and stand upright. More like a big grouse.

Well I never heard back from the Winecup Ranch people. But after talking to fish and wildlife, I was assured that if it didn't say no trespassing, I'd be good to go.

So Wednesday, my son and I packed up and headed for northeastern Nevada.

We got there around 6pm and set up camp. The next morning at daybreak (opening day) we set out on our first hunt. An hour later, it was all over.

Put a shot through both lungs at 200 yards and the speed goat died instantly.

Really nice antelope too.

So we dressed it out, put the meat in a cooler and headed to the little town of Wells so we could have a hot meal and a hotel with a shower. Pretty damn good steak in that little town.

This morning, we headed down to the Ruby Valley to do a little fishing. We both caught a real nice trout in a pond you could throw a rock across with no effort. We saw lots of wildlife and just had an excellent trip.

We're on our way home as I type this to have Rainbow trout and antelope tenderloin with my wife.

Also, no open container law (except in a moving vehicle) and no public drunkiness laws.

Congratulations! Wife and I drew doe tags but our rifle season doesn’t start until 10/12. Also drew a cow tag and a mule deer doe tag, it would be terrible to need to buy a 4th freezer. ‍

Luckily, I got a handle on a couple small freezers from a friend. If my son and I each get a cow elk, we should have enough space.

I bet they were delicious as well.
Bones aside, trout is underrated imo.

The antelope was north of the Ruby Mountains. The trout were in the Ruby Valey Lake watershed - just below the Ruby Mountains. Absolutely beautiful area.

Yep. I think too many people have just had little stocker trout. These were 18" rainbows that tasted great. Just a little butter, olive oil, kosher salt, and a hint of pepper.

The antelope has been amazing! Some of the best meat in the world if you ask me. I muscle out the entire animal. Anything that cannot make 1" medallions becomes either grind for pepperoni sticks, or strips for jerky. So far, we've eaten the tenderloins and some of the back strap seared rare in avocado oil and garlic, then topped with my blueberry sage sauce. Then the next night I did some of leg section medallions again seared rare in avocado oil and garlic but I made a bacon applesauce to go over the top. Fabulous!

Just chop up some bacon, fry it up crispy, drain the grease, add some applesauce, chopped up apples, a little soy sauce, and a little agave or honey to taste. Cook until apple pieces are still crisp but starting to soften. It's also great on a nice steak (preferably a filet) or pork loin chop. Also good if you slice up some apple and have a bite of fresh apple with each bite of meat.
