So unless you're a fan of the Rams for only about a year you should remember the trial of Havenstein at RG in 2017 training camp. He was beyond bad there. We're going to have to rely on these guys being coached up or replacements are going to come from in house.

And lastly the Trent Williams pipe dream is just that a dream that a dream that has no possiblity of happening not just because we won't use the draft capital that would be required to get him but his cap hit next year is more than we can afford. People need to look at these things and be realistic.

Mostly agree, although I do believe there is room for at least 1 top free agent to be brought on-board, probably two.
The Rams are slated to have approximately $45.mil.+ of available CAP next year, and the only must re-signs I see are Littleton, Zuerlein & maybe back-up Center Colton Shelton. Signing these three give us 42 signed players to the roster for 2020. My first two draft picks would go towards a DT/DE and a CB, replacing Brockers & Peters in the pipeline. My top free agent choice at the moment would be to go after F.O.S.M., RG Brandon Scherff of Washington.
Noteboom will fight it out with Edwards for the starting LT role, Allen will remain at Center, Scherff would become our RG and Havenstein will remain at RT, likely having to fight off Edwards here also. LG will be awarded to the winner between Evans, Demby, Brewer, Kolone and another mid-round 2020 draft pick. I expect changes, but it won't be drastic as Noteboom has always been the plan at LT and Havenstein's dead money is too large to deal with until the 2020 season is behind us. jmo.

Noteboom is a OT and that is where he will play next year, at LT. As I've said before, to expect a guy who has never played OG to play mistake free is fantasy. McVay and Kromer said they felt he would be fine at OG and I agree if you give him time to develop. But ultimately, he's going to be playing LT.

The real issue, is at RG and RT both of whom are vets and are not playing well. The things pointed out about Noteboom are mistakes by a guy playing out of position, who has never played that position. It's one thing to practice and another to play the game.

But back to Blythe and Havenstein, both vets who are basically showing they are who they are....second tier players at the positions they are filling. To me that is a bigger concern. Blythe shouldn't be making these mistakes but he does multiple times each game. Havenstein is folding having to play against top level competition who exploit his poor lateral movement and lack of quickness.

I think they just need to find ways to survive the next 4 games and get to the bye week. At that point they will have time to make changes in blocking scheme and players.

I like Scherff and did when he was in the draft. Keep in mind he's 5th year option right now is $12.5 million and he's not going to get cheaper when other people are throwing money at him. Is he going to want a potential winner or a mega contract from a shit team with a ton of cap is going to be the end question.

Make it fit this year and next. For a guy who's once in his life for a few games played Guard.

Would love to see us give up our 1st rounder for Trent Williams. As many have mentioned here, it's not like we ever use the damn pick. Williams clearly doesn't want to play in Washington, so they may as well get something for him...

I guarantee that if we get him the entire offense will change.
I'd rather eat 2019 than give up a 1'st rounder and maybe more at a position we should be good at for several more years. Lets not compromise our future for instant gratification. Besides Whitworth heading off into the sunset, Fowler, Brockers, Peters & Talib may all disappear following this season, we'll need our top draft picks for guys with contracts a lot longer than for a season and a half of Trent Williams. Noteboom or Edwards may be just fine at LT, we won't know that until they get an opportunity to start. Trading for Williams now only fortifies the front office mistake for letting Saffold go, I doubt management will want to admit defeat quite so soon. jmo.

Is Kromer not spending enough time with the line since hes run game coordinator too? Who did the running plays last year?

We would need to clear about $5m more in cap space to pay him under his current contract (which he is holding out from). About the only way to do that would be to trade Brockers for Williams (frees up about $7 mil, but then you have a big hole on defense that can't be patched from the practice squad).

You're right, I wasn't thinking about the cap at all. I guess we just have to pray they gel until next year eh?

PFF agrees. Even Whitworths numbers are way down at the moment. But he's still registering an average grade. Everyone else is below average which surprised me. Rams got OL of the year at the NFL Honors about eight months ago. It's a head scratcher to say the least.

Allen has the same problem. He runs past a loner that he needs to block and the guy makes the tackle. One play against Cleveland stands out. Inside screen to Kupp. Allen even looks at Shobert and then looks ahead to block someone else. Schubert runs behind Allen and makes a tackle that should have gone for 10+, maybe longer. The little things are huge.
He has missed some assignments for sure. But he also wins a lot of those. And he's a young player too. Blythe is a vet, and a vet about to hit the FA market.

And again it's not just the OL. It's just that out of that smaller group of run plays that have actually been blocked well the backs and wideouts have missed opportunities that would have been big plays. THAT really impacts the bottom line when you have a back like Gurley who can turn one run into a final line that is 6+ yards per carry. And it's been missing.

Lastly what is interesting here is the OL has played so poorly that they as a unit offer us room for big improvement. But so do the backs. Hopefully they execute tonight, as I really don't want to suffer through another week like this has been (albeit a short week lol).

Offensive line gave up zero sacks against Seattle, allowed Goff to pass for almost 400 yards and opened some nice holes for Gurley, scoring twice on the ground.

Definite improvement in only a few days.
