Interesting.
No, I do not think we should go after him. But that was sure falling off a cliff.
Atlanta must have some shitty coaching if they are in this position.

Man, your hate for Morris knows no bounds, haha. He's not even with us anymore and you're getting shots in!!

Wouldn’t this be a FO issue? They are the department responsible for signing cousins to a lucrative contract despite his Achilles injury. Then again, that FO also had the foresight to hedge their bet and draft penix. That’s still a lotta $$ for a guy they didn’t see as a long term solution.

As for the falcon coaching, it begins now as they start the development process of penix.

I'm actually wondering if the 49ers go after him and screw Purdy (ie do not offer him a contract after all he's done for them).

PS. Cousins to me is how the NFL has placed QBs above all. He's made so much money for being a mediocre (10-15) QB. He's obviously declined.

Rams, please stay away. He made sense a decade ago.

He has 27.5 Million coming from Atlanta next season. Would have to believe he'll get a contract if he wants to play. Wondering if it will be similar to what the Steelers are paying Wilson???

ATL's front office butchered this signing along with drafting Penix in the first round IMO. I'm no Rheem fan, but the FO didn't do him any favors to start his stint there as HC.

Hell be traded in the pffseason. As soon as they smartly drafted Penix that was a pretty obvious outcome.

For a cut to be in the discussion... I think would mean Cousins is making a stink that they are gonna play the kid.

This is the hard part for a player. To get to the reality of who he is. And the problem with the big contract is he must live up to it and that was unlikely to happen.

From the team perspective if he isn't making a stink then you keep him around in case the kid struggles. The bridge QB role is not an easy one.

Cousins has a no trade clause.
He’s always done what’s best for him financially. No reason to think he’ll stop doing that.
He won’t let Falcons trade him unless it’s under his terms

That relates to the cut option I'd imagine. If he is acting like a pretty princess the team might say fuck it.

He was reportedly not happy when they took the QB in the draft. But he should have been smart enough to see that coming. He is simply not good enough to where a team won't feel the need to hedge their bets.

There is no reason for him to do anything differently. if he wants to make the team better by giving up some salary for free agents, that's his call. He didn't make the Falcons pay him the contract he received and you know that if the Falcons could cut him and pay him nothing if they could, they would.

Next year

They're speculating on an off season cut not right now. And with the number of teams looking for a QB somebody is likely to trade for him.
RIGHT

Penix has a bigger arm and better mobility than Cousins. He has sat all year. They will "most likely" have some minor growing pains, but I think the intangibles will be better with Penix.

Morris has done a nice job with them. Unfortunately Cousins has thrown some untimely picks or they could be like 10-4.

Penix probably gives them a lesser chance to win. But that's not a bad thing given that they're not a playoff team and a higher pick would be more valuable to their future than a playoff berth.

I don't know why drafting penix was a bad move. It was the smart move.

Giving an injured, mediocre qb that much money, especially the guaranteed amount, was definitely a bad move. But they needed a qb this year so I can't blame them too much.

At least they ensured if things went pear shaped with Cousins they were still set at QB.

I saw Penix and Nix play a couple games each last year and Nix stood out for me. He reminds me a bit of Baker Mayfield and just came across as the tougher of the 2.

Signing Cousins made some sense, but he's not the same guy coming off the Achilles tear. That's the risk you take. Smart move to draft Penix, if he pans out.
