Is there any possibility that the Rams can somehow retain Dante Fowler after this season or is he going to be a Cap Casualty? I would sure hate to lose him!!!

Doubt it, plus with the trading of picks for Ramsey I'd wager the farm that Snead is counting on getting a 3rd round comp pick for him. It lessens the loss of those picks and above and beyond that the cap space next year is tight. Gonna have to have the young guys and/or a draft pick fill that spot.

Pay the elite guys first. Rest can fight for scraps tbh.

I like Fowler but he's gonna get overpaid in FA. We'll overpay the dude that deserves it: Ramsey.

Him over Littleton and yes we could. Right now I'd lean toward Fowler.
That's a tough decision for me. I've been on Littleton's side since he was just a part time player. I knew he'd be good, even when everyone else said he was too small or he wouldn't be that good as an every down player. I feel vindicated now that he playing well and I'd have a hard time paying with him. Glad I don't have to make that decision.

If Fowler finishes the season the way he's playing now, Demoff can find a way to keep him if McVay and Snead believe he's worth it.

Gurley and Donald are team players and they can also have their contracts uniquely restructured.

If needed, there are players that will be cut after the season to make room for the RAMsey's and Fowlers of the world.

I'm not going to bore anyone with hypothetical salary cap maneuvering examples but having elite players means having more average players on the roster.

For me, the offset of keeping your elite players for more average ones seems to work for the McVay/Snead model.

In Demoff We Trust

I’d like to retain an elite player at each level of the defense. DL - Donald. DB - Ramsey. LB - Fowler??

Let's just enjoy the rest of the season and worry about all this stuff later. He may take less money if he really likes LA and playing for the Rams. Always remember in Snead we trust.

Or they can balance it with a balloon payment at some point in the future - guaranteed, so he gets his money but fits in under the cap before the new CBA raises the cap space. You don't do that for just anybody, but a truly elite CB - yes. And hope that injuries don't hit the really expensive players.

It does look like it'll be another draft of trade downs though, to bring in bodies to fill holes.

Obo, Patrick and Ebukam have to step up.

Ebukam has been forgotten, but he looks quicker to me. I think McVay mentioned he dealt with knee issues last year.

I have seen him look good in coverage on backs when he is in there.

Anyway with those 3 guys and Durham, they will have to make due. Plus Matthews could still be back. They only save $2M by cutting him next year.

Yea unfortunately I'm in the boat that believes this will be Fowler's last year. Just not enough cap room for a premium pass rusher, plus the comp we will eventually receive from him leaving along with the options we have internally in Obo and Patrick, hard to see him staying.
