The Cardinal forum is in a turmoil about tanking for a high draft pick. I remember those days, where fans would 'fight' over winning meaningless games. I know we don't have a first rounder and I am ok with that. I want us to win out because life is short and winning is fun. I have confidence in the future that things will turn around, but even if the future isn't as rosy a picture as I think it will be, spending half the year hoping for your team to lose is a waste of time. It's a waste of life.

IMO getting a proven vet in lieu of a first round pick is the much better way to go. Most first round picks don't make an impact their rookie years. It's a crap shoot how many years if ever it will take them to justify their draft pick.

IMO the gauge for the value of first round picks is the 5th year option. About 40% of the 2019 draft has already been traded or declined to be extended. The vast majority are from the second half of the round where the Rams would normally be picking. That proves the validity of Snead's approach. He is willing to trade for a proven commodity than keep it for a rookie who may or may not pan out. That is why it is sustainable. Why people value those picks is foolish. This is especially true picking in the second half of the round.

Kyler Murray is an example of a FO trying to cover their asses over a foolish pick. In 2019 3 QBs were taken in the first round. Murray, Jones and Haskins. None IMO validated their picks. A case could be made that using those picks in a trade would have better served the teams.

Eh, your "proven vets" aren't a sure thing either, and they're more expensive.

It would easy for the Rams to essentially tank for a higher draft spot this year....this team is playing very hard however.
Look at the young guys stepping up....
Hoecht had 7 pressures yesterday.....SEVEN!! Will be interesting to see him staying at OLB and getting down to 280 or 285 or so. I wouldn't want him to get lower than that this offseason.
Our new number 52 had 2 sacks and 2 tackles for loss....
Tutu has stepped up as did Skowronik.
Yeast led the team in tackles vs Denver and has good speed.
Hopkins can run routes and catch passes....no idea why he has been shut out of reps up till now.
Durant is a starter next year. He has 3 pics on 13 targets this year. He also defended two balls yesterday to go with his 2 pics and a TD....dude HAS to be on the field.
Copeland played well in his expanded role due to injuries.
Bobby Brown has looked solid so far....
This team was initially exposed for a lack of depth. I think it was just a lack of experience. There are players really stepping up and playing competitive football against other teams starters.

Hoecht had 7 pressures yesterday.....SEVEN!! Will be interesting to see him staying at OLB and getting down to 280 or 285 or so. I wouldn't want him to get lower than that this offseason.

Yeah I am so impressed by his play. Part of what is working so well for him too is a lot of OTs nowadays seem to be going that cardio approach, and prioritizing stoppage of speed rushers. So power is really working. Hoecht has that power for sure. Question is can he keep developing on the contain.

Guy like him has zero room for error there. He has to see what is coming and anticipate it via film study and awareness. I mean most backfield types get moving in his direction even one step early it's over for him. But I'm rooting for him of course, really hope he can keep doing it even though I figure he looks like Floyd's replacement as he fits better strong side.

I can certainly see him getting snaps in a rotational pass rush role.
But, maybe he can develop into a solid edge overall.
He is 300 or more pounds right now....the common thought process would be for him lose weight to sort of fit the normal edge body type.
I don't really agree with this. We could see him lose a few lbs to help with some quickness but, and I agree with you, I don't want him to lose strength. Also, losing a lot of weight....going from 300 to 265 or something....often leads to lose of strength and can cause other issues in terms of movement and athleticism.
I could see him playing at 285 or 290 to maintain his power and maybe pick up a little quickness.
Regardless of the opponent 7 pressures is no joke....I am really, really looking forward to watching him these last two weeks.
