Cam Newton needs ankle surgery, four-month recovery

The Panthers don’t have any receivers to throw to at the moment, so it’s probably not that big of a deal the quarterback will be on the shelf for a few months.
The team announced that Cam Newton would have ankle surgery tomorrow in Charlotte, and will need four months of recovery time.
“The ankle was sore after the San Francisco game and we wanted to see if rest would calm it down, but it is still bothering him and the decision was made to address it,” Panthers head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion said in a statement from the team.
The good news for the Panthers is he’s in familiar hands, as renowned foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson is one of their team doctors.
The other good news is, there’s no risk of losing continuity during OTA practices, since every receiver he knows is gone, and the Panthers are starting from scratch at the position.
