Each State Has a Favorite Fast-Food Restaurant… And 39 States Agree on Chick-Fil-A
By Kailey Guillemin

Business Insider and Foursquare wanted to find out which fast-food chain restaurant was the most popular in each state across America. The results showed that in 39 states, Chick-fil-A dominates.

“For the study, we looked at which chains received the most visits on average per location in every state based on the total number of visits to each chain divided by the number of locations in that state,” according to Business Insider.

McDonald’s was the runner-up in two states (Alaska and North Carolina) and the District of Columbia.

In-N-Out Burger, meanwhile, took two states: Texas and Utah. This put In-N-Out in a tie for third place with Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, which took South Dakota and Hawaii.

Raising Cane’s, Culver’s, White Castle, Taco Bueno and Wendy’s each claimed one state.

Chick-fil-A brings in the most dollars each year compared to any fast-food chain in the United States. QSR magazine reported the chain generated $4.4 million in sales per restaurant in 2016. Altogether, the company brought in almost $8 billion in total revenue.

Chick-fil-A, though, only has about 2,100 restaurants across the country, compared to McDonald’s, which has 14,155, Wendy’s (6,537) and Taco Bell (6,278)

Moreover, Chick-fil-A is only open Monday through Saturday, while the other chains are open seven days a week.

So how does a fast-food chain become so dominant?

The restaurant was ranked number one for customer service at a fast-food chain in a 2014 Consumer Reports survey.

The survey looked at the politeness of staff, and how accurate and how quick they are with orders.

“We should be about more than just selling chicken. We should be a part of our customers’ lives and the communities in which we serve,” Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy, who died in 2014, was once quoted as saying.

Chick-fil-A is also dedicated to investing in their employees’ goals, whether they are part-time or full-time.

Kevin Moss, manager of a Chick-fil-A for 20 years, told Business Insider he tries to provide his employees with support when they need it.

“I’ve found people are more motivated and respond better when you care about them,” Moss said.

Each Chick-fil-A location gives its employees the opportunity to move into leadership positions, which come with more responsibility and a wage increase. Some franchisees will even offer classes to employees to gain more education on the management side of the fast-food world.

“The better we train, the longer people stay with us,” Moss said.

I love White Castle... but it's clearly a love/hate selection.

People either love it - or hate it. Not much in between.

I definitely assumed that in-n-out would win California. People are way over the top in their love for that place in California.

I've found people in Texas, now that I live here, to be much more reasonable about in-n-out that they were back on the west coast. Very strange results from my personal experience.

This is such an idiotic list. I believe there is one White Castle in the entire state of Nevada. And sorry @CGI_Ram white castle is the most disgusting thing I have EVER eaten in this country. Seriously THE most disgusting. Slimy little goo on what appears to be grey meat like discs.

And In n Out in Texas? Raising Caine in CA? Did they poll one person in each state?

Fuck that. I had Chick Fil A's waffle fries and had the worst ever headache. Their milkshake gave me unworldly gas.

Team Taco Bell 4 Life. Tastes good and cleans out your system!

LOL What a list. Never seen a White Castle and have lived in this state a very long time. And In'N'Out in Texas over their native burger chain?

Yeah, their method for deciding each state's favorite fast food chain is flawed. There's 1 chick-fil-a in my state, so of course the average is going to be higher. I bet if there was a poll, the map would look much different. The article basically reads like an ad for Chick-Fil-A.

The most popular fast food chain in Texas is ... not Whataburger?
BY RYAN OSBORNE

OCTOBER 19, 2017 8:12 PM

Call it a case of Fake News.

A new study released Thursday from Business Insider and Foursquare named In-N-Out — not Whataburger — the most popular fast food chain in Texas.

Not naming Whataburger would have been brutal enough for Texans. Selecting the West Coast-based chain they love to hate (in favor of Whataburger, of course) was even worse.

The findings, which included a most popular chain for each state, were determined by total visits to each chain “divided by the number of locations in that state,” according to Business Insider.

So it sounds like Whataburger’s 669 locations in Texas — compared to In-N-Out’s 35 — might have skewed the numbers a bit. Even so, the results did not go over well.

Whataburger’s official account spent the afternoon responding to its supporters and even demanded a recount. Get on that, Business Insider.

I love Whataburger. In-and-Out is good too.

Chic-Fil-A is the most grossly overrated shit on the planet. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why assholes sit in a 30 minute drive through line for average food. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of "fast" food? I swear the people that swear by that place are a cult.....

IMO the best fast food burger I have ever had is the Big Buford from Rally's. I don't think any fast food burgers are truly excellent though, for that a trip to a bar that specializes is the way to go. But after swilling vodka all night the Big Buford hits the spot.
